DECODING
YOUR R & S SERIES VALIANTS.

Owners of R&S Valiants will have noticed that there are 2 main points of identification on their cars.
The first is a stamped number on either the drivers side (right) inner guard, or on the front radiator support panel.
The other is in the form of a removable metal plate on the left hand front door pillar. This page is designed to let you know what those numbers mean.

Stamped inner guard number.

I have chosen the numbers from my own car as an example :

SV1 - 2 - 3660

The first number - SV1 - indicates the car is an S Series. This designation was only used on Australian built cars.
The second number - "2" - tells that the car is a manual. A number "4" would indicate an automatic.
The final number indicates that my car was the 3,660th manual S Series made.

An R Series Valiant would read the same, with the exception of being referred to as "RV1".

Removable Metal I.D Plate

My plate number :

11 28117367

The first digit is the numeric identification for the car line used in the uniform body codes.

1.
Valiant.
2.
Plymouth 6 cylinder
3.
Plymouth 8 cylinder.
4.
Dodge 6 cylinder.
5.
Dodge 8 cylinder.
6.
DeSoto.
7.
Lancer.
8.
Chrysler.
9.
Imperial.

The 2nd Digit is the model series identification.

1.

2.
Belvedere, Pioneer, Dart 330, Chrysler 300, Saratoga, Imperial Crown.

6.
Station Wagon, Belvedere, Pioneer, Dart 330.
7.
Station Wagon, Valiant V200, Lancer 770, Fury, Polara, New Yorker.

The 3rd digit indicates :

1.

2.
1962 model

The 4th digit will be a numeric designation for the producing plant.

1.
Plymouth Plant - Detroit.
2.
Dodge Assembly Plant - Detroit.
3.
Jefferson Plant - Detroit.
4.
Imperial Plant - Detroit.
5.
Los Angeles Plant - California.
6.
Newark Plant - Delaware.
7.
St. Louis Plant - Valley Park MO.
8.
Wyoming Plant.
9.
Canada.

The last six digits will consist of a six digit sequence number.
The sequence numbers will all begin with 100001. Each model series for each car line will begin with the sequence number 100001.

Using my cars number as an example :

1 - the car make "Valiant".
1 - model series "Valiant V100".
2 - model year "1962"
8 - production plant "Wyoming Plant"
117367 - Sequential serial number "17,367th car built.
