58 Formed whilst us 49ers were on tour. On return we formed up as the very first 6 Troop 58 EOD Sqn. No other tours done, Missed out on trip to Philipines (think it was that one) as I landed regi duty as John Phillips (RSM) clerk. Good timin or wot? Finally demobed from Lodge Hill and the Green Machine April 86 Lcpl RE. I rekon if Major Wyatt had said I could stay on another 3 years then I would have. Best times of my life..as with many of us used to say that's it buying myself out but never did.

Well was only 18 when I joined too young to know how the beer was going to affect my long term memory. I have problems trying to remember the old days all I know is it was fun most of the time, meet some great lads had some great times. Would be nice to get in touch with some of the old lads. Spent a little time with our French colleagues in the legion then went to Colchester and didn’t pass go, still I was young what do you expect.

Went straight from training to 49 was on the same class 3 as Jim Prescott, OC was Maj English, SSM was Steve Hambrook lost a leg, I think at FI. We used to spend most of our time clearing minefields on the south coast. We only used to spend a year with the unit then so in 1970 I found myself posted to 4 Fld Sqn in Nienburg, still had a good time at 49 though. Still serving as a TA soldier now, in fact off to Iraq, via Chilwell , 28th of this month. Mitch.

Same comment as Mick Tabone I'm afraid..... It's been so long since I got out and so much lager has passed through, that I can barely remember any of my last 18 months in green stuff with 33EOD. Come to mention it; does anyone remember me !!!!! I was a short lancejack, ginger hair. Started off in the servicing bay with two civvies, (the old fat one was called Chris I think, the other one, er, wasn't), moved over to 49 MT after complaining about life, ended up working in 58's repair bay for my sins. Now, 17 years later I find I am still short and ginger!! Amazing. However I'm now also fat. Life is OK, good job, still married to the girl I was going out with back then (lucky bitch). Two kids and a dog. That's it. Fos, brilliant site mate! Get that reunion sorted.

Started in 58 with people like Sean Mcloughlin, Brummy May, Micky Lumsden etc. Ended up in Colchester for just about 30 days, not long enough to claim LSSA. Went to 49 and done most of my time in the George. Definately amongst the best times of my life.

like everyone else probably the best time of eventually 25 years. Did we do anything else but drink and root around in muddy holes? Was one of those 49'ers who became 58 on the way back. Hated the black aces and their poxy stickers.Never did find out who Scoops misdemeanour was. Must have been bad if he got sent to the colonies. Also never found out who sent the Black Aces sticker to my girlfriend to put inside her skiddies for me getting home. Still in touch with Eff and see him when i'm home. Only cos he makes me look thin. Now civilianised kind of and working in security.

Started with the Regiment as a full screw and just managed to hang onto the tapes despite a number of booze fuelled escapades. One of which was being chased around the SS Uganda by the MP,s whilst being dressed in only a toga. I must have had something against the monkeys as I dimly remember hi-jacking one of their Landrovers in Port Stanley. I also had the honour of being present at 'Minty' Morrisons facial hair removal demonstration which involved a bag of cordite and a zippo. I believe that my section was also guilty of putting the first Coke can into space - Happy times..

Great Unit to serve with. Best times on diving team (NRSA paid for many a drunken night and Brentword Nurses Home at £2.15 per night) and the small team of IEDD No1s and the No2s who always gave 100%. The early 80's tour was best some good men then Lee Morgan - Piggy Parsons - Phil Holroyd - Scouse Russell - Paul Wright QGM (Yes - in them days some of the lads got them also and not just officers) and many many more. Sad memories of the expansion of the Regt but it was needed but things changed and I felt the spirit that 49 had was lost in Regt. Now living in the Sun working at own Estate Agent in North Cyprus - Turkish women beautiful - beer cheap £1 - 20 cigs £.

It was great to be given the link to this site .Just looking through the pictures and messages really brought back memories! (where has all the time gone !!!!) Looked at the picture of 49 Sqn circe 76-77. may be able add some names there back row from left no1 was sure his name was Bob Walker ???no3 guy by the name of Gerald nickname Brigadier !! no 5 ME mick timms (was i that young !!!!!!!) Front row no6 O/C Major Murphy no7 SSM Scanlon !!!! i think. Just seeing that pic and remebering the faces !!!! its the names that escape me...well that middle age for you !! LOL Best time of my army service !!! Remember Paddy Spencer,Danny Thompson,Montague, Pete Mitchell (troopie) Dave Rosa,John Phillips (was troop staff sergt) Donny McDonald,John Romans,Stu Richardson,Andy Griffiths,Harry Huxley (Big `H`),Dave Cormack, im sure there was a sergeant by the name of John Devine??Barnes,Ginge (can`t remember surname) Remember some great times in the George and i think it was the Top House in Upnor Summer of 75/76 the long hot summer ???? was in Staines west London clearing a very dry reservoir where some German bombs had been exposed by the dry weather. Was well bored and fedup, one of the lads had an air rifle with them and so i decided to have some target practise at some ducks !!!!! Noticed some strange people hidding in the bushes around the site and just though `how strange` Got a visit the next day from the O.C Major Murphy...those duck where a rare breed of bird that had decided to visit the UK ...and the strange people in the bushes where `bird watchers` who had rang the MOD in London !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
