Oh, the hair.........big poofy hair with nearly a can of hairspray applied. Some people had the "wet look". Some people had the bottom half of the hair dyed black (sort of looked like someone dipped the hair in a bunch of oil) or other colors of the rainbow. Some had spiked hair of many colors also. Many had banana clips which brought up all your hair to the back of your head leaving the bangs. My hair was too thin for that, so I always opted for the massive curls and cans of hairspry. Some wore many bows in our hair or scarf like things tied in it. Some had to use that great thing called mousse or gel to keep that hair in order. I recall buying gold glitter mousse. Never could totally rinse it all out of my brushes. If it got on your clothes, eeek. Some had a highlighted stripe right down the middle of the hair (remined me of a snunks tail). Some wore the pony tail off to the side (I hide those pictures of me, lol). Some even spend the ungodly minutes of crimping. Crimping made tiny zig zags in the hair, I for one had ZERO patience for that. Somewhere in the dusty storage I still have that iron, along with another iron that was shaped like a triangle which made very odd shapes.
Let's not forget, though, the tail. Both the guys and the gals were very proud of the tail for it took a long time to grow. While the rest of your hair would be short, a long strand from the nape of the neck would be uncut, so it was left long resembling a tail. Some braided, some dyed and some just left to hang. I was proud of mine. :)
Now as for men, well, I knew MANY that would spend HOURS on their hair. LOL It was amazing to me how the guys' hair would sometimes look better than the girls'. Nice wavy, free flowing locks some to almost resemble feathers.
Come on over to the hair message board and tell what you remember about the 80's hair!!!!!!!
