Card captors o Card Captors Sakura como se le conoce en América es la historia de una niña de 10 años, de cuarto grado. Mientras ella exploraba la biblioteca de su padre ha abierto un libro mágico y ahora infinidad de cartas han escapado. Las cartas tienen poderes, personalidad y distintas formas, y es responsabilidad de ellas capturarlas de nuevo.
A menos de que Sakura pueda conseguir todas las cartas habrá una catástrofe. En su aventura cuenta con la ayuda del guardian de las cartas, kerberos (kero de cariño), el cuál a pesar de conservar su gran sabiduría ha perdido sus poderes y ahora tiene la forma simple de un muñeco de peluche.
También Sakura cuenta con la ayuda de su amiga Tomoyo a la cuál le gusta filmar todo lo que hace sakura, además de arreglárselas para conseguirle siempre ropa apropiada a la ocasión.
Sakura está dividido en tres partes, dos de las cuáles se enfocan a las cartas clow y la tercera parte se llama "Sakura Card Series".
