These stories can be explained with folks belief, symbolism and other psychosocial factors. Penguins, dolfins, seacows, kangaroos, basilisks, divers ape- and bearspecies, but also humans with a physical or mental hanicap, are seen as the origin of these mythical manbeings. But for the recent stories, about hairy manbeings and humanoids supposedly comming from unknown flying ships, a sound explanation failed to come in the last fifty years.
