Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this..but here goes! I am researching my family tree and I have found a link to my family on this site. It indicates that Henry John Murray of Woodbrook Trinidad was married to Louise Rose Rochard the daughter of Louis Alexander Rochard and the 3rd cousin of the empress Josephine. Louise Rochard is my ancestor and I would love to know how you discovered that she was related to Josephine....please help if you can.

Thank you!
Renee Rochard

Hello. I've just found this site and hoping I'll find my Murray ancestors...My GGGrandfather was George Murray, b. 1815 possibly in Dunipace, Stirling, S.C, married Mary Robertson, b. May 15, 1818 in Cardross, Dundarton. they were married in June of 1838 in Dunbarton. They immigrated to Canada and lived in Cap Sante, Portneuf, Q.C. where my GGrandmother, Catherine Mary Murray was born. I may have found George's parents in Dunipace, Stirling as John Murray and Margaret Dob(b)ie. Does anyone know this line?

View the details of this row. 11/18/2007  Once againg we seem to be attracting the wrong kind of messages on the board. This week I had to delete three and ban two people. I am sorry to say that if this continues to be the case I may have to close the message boards. This is not something that I really want to do as I hope that this web site will continue to help others find their lost ancestors or break down their brick wall. I do ask that if I do miss some of the off color remarks that some ignorant people post that those who see them to notify me right away so that I can fix them. Thank you Sara "twisted roots" manager MSN Nicknametwisted-roots

I discovered that the Mormons have a number of genealogy books on line.  An important one with lots of mention of Murray, particularly of Swatara Creek and Harris' Ferry, Pennsylvania is  William Henry Engle's book Pennsylvania Genealogies:  Scotch-Irish and German:

Benjamin S Murray - Lewiston, NY
Is my great grandfather. We have been told that he came directly from Scotland to Lewiston sometime in the late 1800's but not sure when. We have also been told our family is from County Cork Ireland. My ggrandfather married Helen Hughes and there is some family connection to Cornell University in NY state but I am not sure whose side of the family this is from.
They had moved to London, Ont by 1890 when my grandfather, George Grover Murray, was born in October. He had one sibling, a sister Mary. I would appreciate any help finding out which branch of the Murrays we are descended from.

I just received information from a distant cousin Kit Vernon <kitandco@ameritech.net> from yet another cousin Caroline Burnett Cooke that gives me cause to believe that my Murray ancestry, even if from Scotland, comes last from County Cork, followed with information previously compiled by 11/17/2003:

I’ll send you the JSM photo, and also a copy of the typescript of his letter to his daughter where he identifies his father as Irish (but no note on where he was born) and identifies Francis Murray as his father’s brother.  That’s the only info I have on ancestry of the Murray side.  I am disinclined to believe the Murrays were truly Irish; mostly the Presbyterianism, I guess.  I am inclined to think they were “oppressor class” Scots-Irish who may have lived in Ireland for a few generations.  My reading of the Syng history inclines me to a similar belief (County Cork but Anglican?).  Carole Burnett Cooke suggested to me that the Murrays were likely to have come from Cork as well, and to known the Syngs in Cork, or the Syngs would never have allowed their daughter to marry into the Murrays.  .  .  .

I know you are as proud of your ancestors as I am. They do not have to be famous, most were ordinary hard working people but they all had a story to tell. They all are the ones who had a part of the history of the times they lived in. So please join the story board and share with the rest of us. Sara ( twisted roots) MSN Nicknametwisted-roots

View the details of this row. 3/16/2007  In order to help me help you with your requests please be sure to list along with the name of the person you want help with as much information as you can. If at all possible it would help a great deal if you could provide the state they lived in along with the dob, and or dod if you have it. Knowing the area to look in is a huge help. I can check the US Federal census up to and including 1930, Passenger list for when they came as I did for Mrs. L. M. Murray and even WWI and WWII enlistment or draft registrations but I do need as much information as possible to find them. Happy hunting everyone may you find your ancestors and learn the history of your family along the way. Sincerely Sara " twisted-roots" MSN Nicknametwisted-roots
