B130 ARCHIBALD de MORAVIA:

Archibald de Moravia: mentioned in the Charterly of Newbottle, 1280, subscribed to the oath of fealty to Edward I, 1246; died in the reign of Robert Bruce. He was succeeded by his son.

B131 ROGER de MORAVIA:

Roger de Moravia: in 1321 obtained from James Lord Douglas ( C146 ‘Murray of Blackbarony’) superior of his lands, a charter, "terrarum de Fala." The estate, designated "Fallahill," for many years was the chief title of the family. Roger died in 1330 ( earlier editions say 1380). He was succeeded by his great-grandson.

B132 PATRICK MURRAY OF FALLAHILL:

Patrick Murray of Fallahill, acquiring land about Philiphaugh, had a charter dated 20 February 1477. He died at the close of the 15th century.

B133 JOHN MURRAY OF FALLAHILL:

John Murray of Fallahill. This Chieftain the celebrated "Outlaw Murray" who with five hundred of his own men bid defiance to the king of Scotland James VII, is immortalized in a beautiful ballad of the Scottish Border, "For ages" wrote Sir Walter Scott, "a popular song in Selkirkshire." He was high sheriff of Selkirkshire 1509; married Margaret Hepburn, daughter of Patrick Hepburn and lady Janet Douglas ( J 241 Murray of Stanhope) she was the great-granddaughter of King James I. He was killed in 1510. Had two sons and three daughters. He was succeeded by his elder son.

B134 JAMES MURRAY OF FALLAHILL:

James Murray of Fallahill; married a daughter of Sir john Cranston; died about 1529 and was succeeded by his elder son.

B135 PATRICK MURRAY OF FALLAHILL:

Patrick Murray of Fallahill; obtained, under the Great Seal, a charter dated 28 January 1528, "Terrarum de Philiphaugh," had the heritable sheriffship of Selkirkshire which had been granted by James IV to his grandfather confirmed and ratified to himself and his heirs; He married 1. Margaret Flemming; married 2. A daughter of Borthwick; married 3. Elizabeth Ormiston, widow; He died 1580 leaving his grandson Patrick ( son of James the Younger of Fallahill) his heir.

BI36 PATRICK MURRAY OF FALLAHILL:

Patrick Murray of Fallahill; married Agnes, daughter of Sir Andrew Murray ( C149 Murray of Blackbarony) ; m. 2. Marion, daughter of Sir Lewis Bellendon) Had three sons and four daughters by his first wife. He died in the time of James IV; and was succeeded by his son.

B137 SIR JOHN MURRAY; KT. OF PHILIPHAUGH:

Sir John Murray: Knight of Philiphaugh, married 1. Janet daughter of Sir William Scott; married 2. Isabel, daughter of Sir James Pringle; He sat in Parliament of Co. Selkirk, 1612; died about 1640; was the first of the family designated of Philiphaugh; had three daughters by his first wife and:

1. James ( Sir) Knighted by Charles I; married Anne, daughter of Sir Lewis Craig of Riccerton; he d.s.p. ( did not survive parent) having had two sons and five daughters.

(A.) John ( Sir) succeeded his grandfather (B138)

2. Gideon, A.D.C. to Charles I, in whose service he lost his life.

B138 SIR JOHN MURRAY, KT. OF PHILIPHAUGH:

Sir John Murray, Knight of Philiphaugh; one of the judges for trying of Cos. Roxburgh and Selkirk; joined Graham’s standard, 1646, claimed 12,014 pounds for damages he sustained from Montrose, 1649; married Anne, daughter of Sir Archibald Douglas of Cavers, and had six sons and four daughters; married 2. Margaret, daughter of Sir john Scott, by whom he had a daughter Jean who died young. He died 1676.

B139 SIR JAMES MURRAY OF PHILIPHAUGH:

Sir James Murray of Philiphaugh, b. 1655; appointed one of the senators of the College of Justice, was Lord Register 1675; married Anne, daughter and co heir of Hepburn of Blackcastle. He married 2. Margaret, daughter of Sir Alexander Don. He died 1708 having had with other issue

B140 JOHN MURRAY OF PHILIPHAUGH:

John Murray of Philiphaugh; heritable title of Sheriff of Co. Selkirk; M.P. from 1726 until his death. He married in 1711, Eleanor, daughter of Lord Basil Hamilton; had four sons and two daughters. He died in 1753 and was succeeded by his son.

John Murray of Philiphaugh; married Miss. Thompson; had three sons and four daughters. He died 1800’s; succeeded by his third son.

B142 JAMES MURRAY OF PHILIPHAUGH:

James Murray of Philiphaugh; born 1767; married 1809 Mary Dale, daughter of henry Hughes; had three sons and a daughter; he died in 1852 and was succeeded by his elder son.

B143 JOHN MURRAY OF PHILIPHAUGH:

John Murray of Philiphaugh, Co. Selkirk; J.P. and D.L.; born 1817; married 1840 Rose Mary, only daughter and heir of William Andrew Nesbett. He died in 1882 .
