Shielding Yourself
                              With Visualisation

I have just recently taught a friend this technique and found that she understood it quite well and she herself does not know very much about the mind and everything else out there in the world.

In the world of Magick I find it important to know how to protect not only you, but your mind from anything trying to get in. You will often hear the words 'shield yourself', 'protect your mind', 'psychic attacks'.. and many others, but what does everyone mean when they say these things? Exactly what they say. They are giving you advise on how to keep your mind from wandering, or being peered in on... even from being read.
Everyone has a way of doing this and sometimes it is simple, other times it will be harder. It all depends on what your keeping out or who your keeping out.

Away To Begin
It is quite common among those that use visualisation to shield to use a wall, such as a brick wall, a circle of light or a dome of light in which you are protected. There are many different ways, you just have to change it to suit your needs and comfort zones. Climb into a box, lock a door to a room, whatever you find easy, here I will give you some idea how to go about with brick walls and light domes/circles.
Brick Walls: We all know what a brick wall is like, can't see through it, can't break it - of course it is possible to break but that comes later. Visualise a brick wall, if at first you can't see it try a blank wall. Picture is different colours, then add some sort of pattern. Lastly add the brick-like pattern. Picture the texture, colour, strength - as if looking at a picture of a wall. Now that you have a wall up put it to use. As an example lets just say you have a friend trying to read your mind and you have realised what they are doing successfully. Picture your wall, build it up brick for brick, and focus on blocking them out. See your wall with you or your mind on one side, your friend on the other trying to get in. See their thoughts hit the wall and bounce back as if hitting a force field, which is what your wall is like. Keep it up until it seems your friend has failed. Of course if you grow weary do stop, even ask your friend to stop prying. It could take awhile to get the hang of it but with patience you will succeed. After while you will learn to be able to shield whilst going about normally, sometimes when you begin you have to concentrate or you may lose focus.
Domes or Light Circles: You could possibly find the wall hard to build up, you might find the following easier. Close your eyes and visualise light coming through you, all through your body and then out through your fingertips moving around you and creating a protective dome. You could picture your dome like you see force fields in movies, all around you, shiny and unbreakable. If you prefer a circle instead then picture yourself standing in your own space and turning with a finger pointed outwards with light reaching up through the ground and creating a circle, in the dirt or in the air- where ever you feel best suits you. If you are familiar with circle casting within rituals, then you might find this easy as its the same sort of technique as when you are creating your circle.

But what if they seem to grow weak and start to fail after while? As everything breaks down or starts to grow weak after awhile so will your shield. To new people that come across your shield it will be strong, but once they get to know you, they know your shield. It helps to change your shield at times, the way you do it or the way that you see it - use a metal wall instead of a brick one! You can simply change it, or enhance it.
