My name is Marcial Ramos; I am a 13 year old boy with a passion for
painting. I was born in Cuba on October 10, 1989. I emigrated here with my
family in 1995.
I paint everyday after school for about three to four hours. I started
painting at the age of two. I painted my first picture with crayons and
water colors. When I was seven, I started taking art classes. In these
classes my professor told my family that my artistic ability was well beyond
my age level. As I grew up, the canvas became more defined, intense and
greater in size, so my father and my mother bought me a stool that would
help me reach the canvas with my brushes. I was using acrylic, carbon, water
colors and collages to express myself and the images in my mind. I prefer to
use oil paintings above anything else.
Most of my work focuses on war and many other problems being faced around
the world and its environment. At the age of ten I had my first art
exposition at the Union City Board of Education. I was the youngest child
ever to have my art work on display at the Board of Education. With ten
paintings completed I was called "Young Picasso". The exposition was
supposed to take place for two months, but it continued for an entire year.
I got a lot of attention from the press and it was covered in many
newspapers. I also had seven slightly smaller paintings at an expo at the
school I went to, Hudson Elementary. I went to this school for two years
until I was transferred to Woodrow Wilson Elementary School. It was a school
for the gifted and talented, and I was accepted for my artistic ability. I
had another exhibit in the art gallery "Elements of Paradise". Twenty four
of my paintings were on display in the gallery, calling the attention of
even more press. I was being interviewed on many major newscasts such as
"Fox 5 News", "Cablevision", and Spanish newscasts like, "Noticias 41",
"Primer Impacto", "Al Despertar", and "Noticias 47". I was a guest speaker
at a Spanish Radio program "Radio Wado con Malyn Falu" and "Radio Marti". I
have even made appearances in newspapers such as "The Jersey Journal", and
in Spanish publications, "El Especialito", "La Tribuna", "Vanidades", and
"Hoy" from New York. I have won a United States Achievement Academy National
Award and All- American Scholar Award. Currently I have six paintings at
"Paula at Rigoletto" Restaurant in Weehawken, New Jersey.
