Welcome to the website for the Sailing Yacht "Solace III".  A 27 ft Cruising Sloop converted to hybrid electric propulsion by Australian owner/skipper David Layton.

The purpose of this website is to update friends of my where-abouts,  provide some photos and for interested people to learn how this solar powered electric driven yacht actually works.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:
Thanks for the assistance of the many helpers, especially the guys in the "Solar Car Race Team" at the Northern Territory University, and to Darwin Radiators for the hours of welding and fabrication donated

TECHNICAL READERS:
1. Since I have no case to promote or product to sell, all engineering details are accurate and not exagerated.  Hopefully this will be helpful to new enthusiasts tired of sales hype.

2. System  efficiency and operating data have been recorded for the last 2000 miles of  e-boat travel  (available by email request).

3. They say experience varies with equipment ruined.  That makes me an expert.  Hybrid research is not cheap and inevitably you will change your system as you learn.  You can keep the costs down if you have time to rummage through used machinery yards, as it is all the ancilliary bits and pieces that end up costing the most.
