RECENT CREW AND STUFF
In the last 15 years I have managed to alternate between sailing holidays and engineering contract work in Oilfield and Renewables. Many of my early sailing trips I had family or freinds join me on the boat, though recently I have been doing more solo sailing or with backpackers. Did I scare them off? No, just far afield now and hard to get pinned down to 2 week breaks. Also, I have been sailing in company with other yachtsmen so loneliness is less of a problem and secondly, I needed the time alone to sort out the problems with the solar electric drive system. But now? The electric drive is done and I think one needs to be a bit mad to enjoy ones own company for too long, and hence I seek crew.
Ambrose from Malaysia and Jill from Canada were onboard for a few months ex Borneo last year. This year I am keeping company with Justin from Norway and Mike form Wales. (See Photos).
I still keep in contact with these people and they say one big appeal is the relaxed pace and the "off the beaten track" places I visit. That is one other benefit of a small boat: one can get into anchorages others cannot, we also sail in close to the beach so you actually see the villages and sights not just the horizon. I think other yachties should take a lesson there. Most of my crew love silence of the electric motor travel especially on a flat sea or moonlit night.
THE CAT....... Yes, "Miau Miau" may stay on the boat if her swimming sorties are kept in check. She goes fishing too - off the swim platform at the back. Gets seabirds occasionaly (those stupid enough to take a rest on the bow rail).
WANT TO COME SAILING?
........THIS REQUIRES UPDATING .........
I AM CURRENTLY IN PERTH AND SOLD MYSELF TO THE OIL INDUSTRY .... (WHAT A HYPOCRIT HEY).... WELL SOMETHING HAS TO FUND THE NEW HORIZONS...... STAY TUNED..... Dave, Nov 05.
I am looking for one person (or maybe 2 for limited durations...... small boat) who want to share this adventure and who understand the importance of compatibility with the captain and other crew members. Younger age Group 20's & 30's will avoid a generation gap as I am still a kid at heart and do party a bit. Consequently weather you posess sailing skills or not is less important to me. Besides; the boats electric drive is dead easy to use and the sails? ........ well its set up for single handed sailing, so I can manage easily with a novice on board untill I teach you the skills.
The crew can stay for one or more legs as they wish. I normally share day to day costs. For most boats this works out at around $20 US per day, but my boat being smaller and without diesel expenses works out cheaper.
Press release: I am actually working in melbourne (home city) now, but I do plan a cruise later in 2007. She is in Cebu, Philippines. By the way, if you are in Australia call me on 0409080610
