Welcome to the Alexithymia chatsite.Alexithymia is a psychological trait characterised by a lack of references to emotion in personal conversation and a focus on practical and intellectual concerns. Alexithymics appear well adjusted to reality, but show an essential deficit in the realm of emotional processes, giving rise to personal and interpersonal difficulties in relationships.

This site is firstly designed to be an information and discussion forum for alexithymics and others who have limited awareness of their own emotions. Therapists (& theorists, social workers, etc.) are welcome to participate and share experiences of alexithymia drawn from the difficult therapeutic environment (difficult due to lack of affect transference, etc.).  Members are encouraged to explore their experience of alexithymia within this caring environment, with the hope of gaining self-education and coping skills.

Welcome to the site, and please feel free to start posting.
