You know you're from Pella when...- You know how to pronounce "Jaarsma".
- You correct people when they pronounce Dutch names wrong.
- You know that Pella has the second smallest Walmart in the United States.
- You hang out at Walmart for fun anyway.
- You have ever tried to find the "staircase" in the graveyard.
- You don't care if you miss a day of Tulip Time.
- The only reason you go to Tulip Time is to work and eat the food.
- You know what's inside a Dutch letter.
- You took bets on who would win Tulip Queen.
- You know all the words to the "We're the kids from Pella..." song.
- You have ever worn wooden shoes to a basketball game.
- You attend both Pella v. PC basketball games a year. (Bonus points if you have ever sat on the other team's side)
- You or one of your relatives works at Central.
- You look through the phone book (even the V section) and know each person.
- You wave at people on the street because, even if you don't recognize them, they probably recognize you.
- You write a check in a store, and upon seeing your last name the clerk asks after your great grand-aunt on your goat's side, thrice removed.
- You have tiptoed through the tulips.
In fact, you've picked a few just to be obnoxious, but looked over your shoulder just the same. - You can Dutch dance.
- You get pulled over by a police officer just for a chat.
- You know who THE Michael is.
- You have ever hung out in the middle of the corn field or in a ditch off the side of the highway.
- You think Des Moines is a big city.
- You know all the "if you ain't Dutch, you ain't much" or "you can always tell a Dutchman, but you can't tell him much" phrases.
- You find it normal that there's at least three building-size windmills in motion at any given time.
- You have ever had a windmill or giant tulip in your front yard.
- You have been in a riot started over homecoming.
- You don't use your turn signal. Everyone knows where you're going anyway.
- You have come to hate tourists.
- You know that PC doesn't always stand for politically correct or personal computer.
- You've ever had a snowball fight in a parking lot.
- You know how many churches there are and all of them by name.
- You know better than to mow your lawn on Sunday.
- You know what it means when it rains on the first day of Tulip Time.
