| In Memories of ELENA DAN I created this page as a tribute for Elena Dan. So far I can't find any internet webpage dedicated to her and I think she deserves one, so that she will remain in our memories. Angela Gheorghiu's beloved younger sister Nina or Elena (Burlacu) Dan was born in 1967 at Adjud, Romania. She joined Angela at the music boarding school Bucharest and also graduated in the Bucharest Music Academy. She started her carreer as an opera singer, was performing widely in her own country. She made her international debut in L'elisir D'amore at Opera National De Lyon in 1996. The opera was filmed and recorded. Sadly, Elena of an illness shortly after the recording. Angela and Elena were, as Angela puts it "inseparable, almost like twins, she was more than a sister to me". Angela also once spoke about Elena in an interview "She is more beautiful than I and sings even better!". It is to her that Angela dedicated her 'Mysterium' recording. It is a great loss, not only for Angela and her friends and family, but also for the opera world to have lost one of it's talented rising star. ~Elena Dan will always remain in our hearts~ Sources: Decca, 'Diva The new genration' (book). |
