Writing with a Tool - 'The Easy Way'
(White background)

Check out the 'Tutorial Album' for different tools...
you can use almost anything that has
a transparent background
PART ONE:
1. Open UGA5 > Blank Animation
2. Resize. Make your frame the approximate size that will accommodate your writing and tool (remember height as your tool can quite often go off the top of the frame when you have a particularly tall letter) so rather too big than too small!
3. Go to Object (Top Toolbar) > New Blank Object
4. Colour your frame white with the Paint Tin
5. Go to 'T' (Left Toolbar) and write your name/text and place it at the lower left corner of your frame
6. Count the number of ups and downs on your text - this is an indication of how many frames you will need. Duplicate your frame that many times (you can always make more later if you need them)
To Duplicate - Right click > Duplicate Frame
I always Save as a .gif here
7. Go to your first frame (Lower bar) and highlight your first frame (on Right)
8. Get your Tool > Add Image (Top Toolbar)
9. Use the Pick Tool (Left Toolbar) and position your tool at the top of your first letter. You may want to Zoom-In to do this
10. Go to your next frame (bottom) and highlight the frame on right with the tool and make the 'eye' active. Use your Pick Tool to place your tool at the bottom of your first letter
11. Do this to all your frames working from the top of the next letter to the bottom until you have finished your entire name making sure that your Tool (on the right) has the 'eye' activated each time
12. Make the last frame with just your name and NO tool
That is the end of the first part of the Tut
Preview and Save as a .gif NOW if you are happy
or a .UGA file if you are not so that you can continue working on it :(
PART TWO:
Now we need to white over all the bits we don't need. It is tedious but it is worth it! Zoom-In on each frame and colour carefully with your white paintbrush. If you are unsure what bits I mean have a look at my sig above in your UGA5 and analyse it
TIMING: you will need to adjust your timing quite drastically as your sig will be racing. If you have a dot it will need a longer pause and of course at the very end you will need to linger on that last flourish of the pen! Once again have a look at my timing above
FRAME POSITIONING: It is nice to have your last frame with just the finished name. Duplicate this and make it frame #1 also so that it will load first for viewing purposes
SHADOWING: You may like to add a shadow to your pen
There is a Tut on Shadowing on the 'Quickies' Board
LAYING YOUR PEN FLAT: This is nice to do at the end
There is a Tut for this (Rotation) under 'Common Problems' (left nav bar)
CROPING: Your background may be too big
There is a Tut for this also under 'Common Problems'
Any Questions or Problems please ask to the General Board -
Your feedback would be appreciated!
