TLACHTGA (2): Daughter of Mog Ruith, Arch-Druid of Ireland, who brought back the fragments of a stone wheel known as Roth Failor Roth Ramhach, which her father and Simon Magus had been using for magical demonstrations in Italy, and placed them near Rathcoole, Co. Dublin, where they may still be seen. TLAZOLTEOTL, TETEOINIAN ('Mother of God'), IXCUINA: Aztec. Beautiful goddess of love, fertility, healing, divination, magic and the Earth, and also of dirt. Known as Toci, 'Our Grandmother'. Mother of the maize god Cinteotl, who may originally have been a maize goddess. TOHU: Hebrew. Primeval chaos, equatable with TIAMAT. TOMA: ('The Wrathful She') Tibetan. Associated with the intellect. Visualized in Yogic rites as red-coloured, naked except for ornaments, dancing and showing the psychic Third Eye. TONACACIHUATL: ('Lady of Our Subsistence') Aztec, wife of creator god Tonacatecuhtli. Said to have given birth to an obsidian knife from which sprang 1,600 demigods who peopled the Earth. Probably originally an Earth mother goddess, and her husband a later addition. Has been identified with CHICOMECOATL. TONAGMA: ('Black Wrathful One') Tibetan, Tantric. In fact depicted red-coloured and involved in the Red Feast ritual. She is the wrathful aspect of VAJRA-DAKINI; all the goddesses of her Tibetan Tantric order have two aspects, peaceful and wrathful. TOOTEGA: Eskimo. A spirit that can walk on water and looks like a small woman. TOU MU: Chinese Buddhist and Taoist goddess (probably of Hindu origin), living in the Pole Star. All the other stars revolve around her, and she has power over life and death but is regarded as beneficent. Depicted with three eyes and eighteen arms, holding weapons, the Sun, the Moon, a dragon's head and five chariots. Known as the Bushel Mother, she had nine sons, the Jen Huang, earliest Earthly rulers. TOYO-UKE-BIME: see UKE-MOCHI-KAMI. TOYO-UKE-NO-KAMI: ('Abundant Food Deity') Japanese food goddess, with a shrine at Watarapi. TRIPLE PUSSA, THE: Chinese Buddhist triple goddess, probably corresponding to KWAN-YIN. TRISALA: Hindu, Janaist. Mother of the Mahavira ('Great Man') when he decided to leave heaven and be incarnated on Earth to save humanity. He first chose to enter the womb of Devananda, wife of the Brahman Rishabhadatta, but later decided to transfer to that of Trisala, wife of Siddhartha. When he was born, the gods and goddesses came down from Heaven to show their joy. TRIVIA: ('Three Roads'). A name for HECATE as goddess of crossroads. TSAO-WANG NAI-NAI: Chinese. Wife of hearth god Tsao-wang, she helps him and also keep a record of the women's sayings and doings. TUARET, TAUERET, RIRIT: Egyptian, a predynastic hippopotamus deity and mother goddess. Sometimes (like HATHOR, SEKHMET, and MUT) called the Eye of Ra, and his daughter. Particularly popular at Thebes, where she was known as OPET. Protectress of women in pregnancy and childbirth, associated with the god Bes. Amulets of these two were places in tombs, to help with rebirth. Identified with the constellation Ursa Major; she appears in the middle of the Dendera Zodiac. Sometimes considered the wife of Set, and an avenging deity. Depicted as a pregnant female hippopotamus, standing on her hind legs, with pendulous human breasts; her hind legs those of a lioness, and her tail that of a crocodile; she carried a rolled papyrus, symbol of protection. In her avenging aspect, she had a lioness's head and brandished a dagger. TUI: Chinese, one of the trigrams of the I Ching, one Yin line above two Yang lines; the Joyous, the Youngest Daughter, the Marrying Maiden, the Lake, the Mouth -two strong lines within, expressing themselves through gentleness. Symbolic animal the sheep. (See also SUN and LI.) TULA: ('Balance', concrete and abstract) Hindu name for the constellation on Libra. TULI: Polynesian, Samoa. Daughter of Taaroa (Tangaroa) and creatress of the world. TUONETAR: Finno-Ugric goddess of Tuonela or Manala, the Underworld, wife of Tuoni. Their daughters were goddesses of disease, evil and suffering. TURAN: Etruscan fertility goddess, corresponding to VENUS. TURQUOISE WOMAN, THE: Amerindian, frequently mentioned in Navajo myth. She may have been the original, female, form of Ahsonnutli, bisexual creator deity, who is known as the Turquoise Hermaphrodite. TUULIKKI: Finno-Ugric forest goddess, daughter of Tapio and MIELIKKI. This family was invoked to ensure abundance of game. TYCHE: ('Fortune') Greek, daughter of Oceanus and TETHYS. Each city had its own Tyche. Wears a mural crown and the attributes of abundance.
