Also during December: Great Christmas Art Swap Our 4th Annual Art Swap! (Details below).

April: Switch Mediums - Due April 30, 2006 Example:If you want to participate in this project, do a piece of art in medium other than the one you normally use. (If you normally paint in oils or acrylics, switch to watercolor or colored pencils, etc.) This project is aimed at getting each of us more familiar with mediums we don't ordinarily use. This one should be great fun and a new learning experience!

May: Photo Reference - Due May 31, 2006 Art's member, Maribi, has provided an excellent Photo for this challenge. It should be fun to paint and also to see the same scene in the different styles of the members of Art! The photo is here. Please download it and do a painting or drawing of the photo in your own style.

June: Florals - Due June 30, 2006. Member, Yvette suggested we all do florals. Please paint a flower or a bunch of them and let's have June bursting out all over with flowers and plants!

July: Strong Light & Shadow - Due July 31, 2006. The object here is to concentrate on light and shadow and to present a piece of art that has strong contrast from a single light source. Make the light source evident, so there can be no doubt where the light is coming from. Suggestion: Set something up with a strong single light and use it as your model.

August: Wildlife - Due August 31, 2006. This one is pretty straightforward. Draw or paint a wild animal, bird, fish or any type of wildlife.

September: Hot Air Balloons - Due September 30, 2006. If there are Fall hot air balloon races or shows in your area, attend one of these events and do sketches or make photographs to use as reference for a painting. If there isn't a local even near where you live, find a photograph of a hot air balloon, or balloons, And use that as reference - or make up a scene from your own imagination of these colorful airships.

October: Trompe L'Oeil - Due October 31, 2006. Do Trompe L'Oeil (Fool the eye) painting. (See William's album for some great examples of Trompe L'Oeil painting).

November: Ancestors - Due November 30, 2006. Dig out grandma or grandpa's picture, or a family group of your ancestors and do a portrait style painting.

December: My Work Space. - Due December 31, 2006. Do a drawing or painting of your workspace or a part of it. Could be your whole studio or anyplace where you do your art, or it could be a closer view of the materials you use: Paint tubes, brushes in a jar, or something like that. Anything that will represent your own working space and/or tools.

September through early November: Please work on something for our 4th Annual Christmas Art Swap. Join the fun when we put our art in an album and then draw names to see who swaps their art with who! Honestly, this is a wonderful way to collect a piece of art from one of your fellow members of Art. We've done this swap for 3 years straight now and it is an exciting time and spreads a bit of holiday cheer, as well. Please join us in the swap this year. There will be several announcements and complete details of the swap coming very soon, so watch for it and plan to join the fun this year. The more the merrier!
These projects or challenges, will take us through the current year. We have a few more suggestions to add to it later, but we can always use your helpful input for more ideas! Please let us know what you would like to see included in the challenges for 2007.
