Why this website ?

- First ...

- So good to have you here ! ;)

"Surinam formerly Dutch Guyana, this small South American country is one of the earth's last remaining wildernesses. Adventurous tourists can visit Amerindian or Maroon tribes by dubout canoe, scale granite mountains and turtle watch on pristine deserted beaches."

This is a humble attempt to promote Suriname as a beautiful place to visit. Too often I have faced people wondering about which country I were talking about. It is an unfortunate fact people usually don't know anything about Suriname. Some even never heard about it. Well you know what? This is the very reason why you should take the time to explore this unspoiled land.

Suriname is truly unique, no other country like Suriname... You've got to go there to really understand what I mean. You'll be touched by the people; their smile, their kindeness, and their food too!! You'll feel free like a bird, surrounded everywhere by the Amazonian Rain Forest. You'll love Paramaribo, it's beautiful Dutch colonial-style white wooden houses and you'll be amazed to see such an ethnically diverse people: javaneses, hindustanis, blacks, chineses, whites, amerindians... Ever seen that? For sure, you'll go back!

You'll find here most of the information you need if you are planning a trip...

Should you have any question, please ask me and I'll answer as soon as possible.

I M PLANNING TO ADD A PAGE WITH TRAVELE'S ACOUNTS IN SURINAME : IF YOU WANT TO BE 'PUBLISHED' HERE JUST SEND ME YOUR TEXT AND I'LL POST IT. THANKS !

These guys express it beautifully.

"Little is known in the outside world about this tropical paradise. Suriname is what the old very tales called this land " El Dorado" which means the place of Gold. In 1998, an area of 6,000 square miles was declared the Central Suriname Nature Reserve. It is the largest protected tropical forest area in the world. Once you have visited Suriname, and enjoyed its diversity of cultures and the magnificent unspoiled stretch of rainforest, you will be amazed.

The interior of Suriname is unique and, without question, it is a MUST to visit the Maroon and indigenous, Amerindian communities there. The way of life of these people has by and large remained untouched over the centuries. Since tourism to the villages is still in its infancy, they have not yet been corrupted. The inhabitants are usually as curious about you as you are about them. Become acquainted with the culture and hospitality of this fascinating environment, where the past can still be felt. The fascinating Amazone area will show you the beauty of wild life. In the jungle there are more than eight Westerners, life in the interior is of an unfamiliar purity; one valuing nature and closely different apes, hundreds of colourful tropical birds, and numerous unknown plants and insects. For - knit communities.

Suriname's culture is endless. A colourful mix of so many different people is the most recognisable inheritance of the ancient colonial period. Together with the multi-cultural society on top, with numerous exotic restaurants, traditional clothing styles and tradition. Sometimes you might think your in India and than again in Africa and next you're in the Javanese dessa.

Don't miss the opportunity to become acquainted with the treasure of Suriname: the tropical rainforest. Even on a world scale, this is a unique area - unspoiled, and relatively accessible - a winning combination"

PS: Excuse me for the poor graphic quality of this website but my purpose is not to impress you with any hypothetical computer skills (which I do not have asyou can see) but rather to impress you with the greatness of a beautiful country which you 'd love to visit I am sure if you just knew it. I hope this website may contribute some way to communicate you my passion for Suriname ang give you some tools that will bring you there some day.

Thanks !

- Glynn Davies.
