CHAPTER 11

THE HUMMER

The Hummer’s engine caught and roared to life. Electra stepped on the accelerator. The rear wheels screamed on the pavement as the Hummer sped out the door.

Jenna looked at the passenger side mirror and seen the Hummer off in the distance catching up. "That woman doesn’t give up. She’s like a pain in my ass." Jenna told Callie.

"Who?" Callie asked back.

"Electra Summers, do you know her?" Jenna questioned.

The Hummer sped up faster.

"I seen her on TV promoting her exotic cars. Is that who was there with you?" Callie replied.

"She was paid off to take the load and she almost shot me point blank in the face before you guys showed up. Where did you get the Peterbilt?" Jenna said.

"We rented it with a credit card that one of those guys dropped when he took B.J.’s truck. Once he gets his bill at the end of the month, he’s going to be very mad.." Callie explained to Jenna. "B.J. put full coverage on that truck when he rented it."

The Hummer rammed the back of the Ford hard. Jenna and Callie went forward from the hit.

Callie spoke into the CB mike. "B.J., you better give me a hand here. That big yellow banana is back with a vengeance."

B.J. looked in the mirror on the driver’s side and seen the Hummer behind the Ford. He grabbed for his CB mike. "Can you get by me?"

Callie looked out the windshield. "I’m going to pass you." Callie floored the gas pedal. The Ford’s engine burst into speed as Callie turned the wheel slightly to make the pass.

The Ford sped up along side of B.J.’s truck. B.J. looked quickly at the driver’s side mirror and slowly put his left foot on the brake pedal. The Kenworth slowed down as the Ford went by. The Hummer sped up getting ready to pass.

B.J. hauled the wheel over to the left as fast as he could. The Kenworth swerved over getting in the way of the Hummer.

"That stupid truck!" Electra yelled as she pushed down the brake pedal.

B.J. looked over at Bear. "What do you think, kid? Should we let that big banana go by?"

Bear grinned and nodded his head up and down fast.

B.J. straightened out the truck and trailer on the road.

Electra watched then stepped on the accelerator. The Hummer picked up speed as it kicked up dust.

B.J. watched in the driver’s side mirror as the Hummer came speeding up. He held the steering wheel tight. Bear watched B.J.

"This banana seems to smell funny. Lets throw it in the ditch." He said to Bear. He swung the wheel over fast. The Kenworth swerved over at the Hummer.

"Look out!" G yelled from the back seat.

Electra seen the Kenworth crossing over at the Hummer. She turned the wheel as fast as she could. The Hummer went towards the ditch driving into it. She hit the braked pedal causing the wheels to skid on the shoulder. The Hummer crashed into the ditch coming to a fast stop. The front end buried its self in the embankment throwing up dirt.

The engine stopped. Electra reached for the key and turned it. Nothing happened as she turned the key.

"Did any of you guys bring a gun?" She asked as she tried to start the Hummer.

No one answered.

Jenna and B.J. closed the trailer’s rear doors.

"It’s all strapped down." B.J. told Jenna.

Callie came out of her house carrying a piece of paper. "I couldn’t find anything on Johnny Smith. You sure he works for you?" Callie asked as she walked up to them.

"He’s been with me for five years now. Why would he be behind all this?" Jenna asked.

"We are just going down the list. Maybe it is someone else you work with?" B.J. explained. "Do you know anyone who might be jealous of you?"

Jenna stood there thinking for a second and answered "I don’t know."

"All I know is that every highjacker who has the Internet knows who you are and what your load is worth." Callie said. "You are a high prize, Jenna."

"Do they have my picture up at their web site?" Jenna said jokingly. "If they do, lets hope it’s a good one."

"We better get ready to go." B.J. cut in. "We can’t be here all day."

Callie spoke out . "Jenna, can I see you in my house for second?"

Lobo set his briefcase on the desk in the room. He looked at the other FBI agents and police officers that sat in the room.    He opened it, pulled out a brown envelope and set it down.

He spoke to everyone in the room. "We are here today to bring down Johnny Smith. The drop off is in a couple of hours. It’s an unknown location at this point. We have to wait until the switch is done and then we grab him."

"You mean you don’t know where he is going to be?" A police officer asked.

"I know where he is going to be. If I tell anyone in this room we might get some young buck here go off and foil everything. We are going to grab Johnny Smith at the Mexico border." Lobo said "I have to make sure he has made the deal."

He reached into the brown envelope and pulled out copies of a picture. He passed it to a female officer. "Pass those out please."

The female stood up and started to walk around and passing out the copies of the picture.

"If you take a good look at the picture in front of you. It is the picture of the truck that is hauling the statues. It’s B.J. McKay’s red and white Kenworth." Lobo told everyone.

"What makes you so sure he’ll be going to Mexico?" Another officer asked.

Lobo looked at him. "He won’t be dumb enough to stay on American soil with stolen statues. He’ll go to Mexico then leave. Once he’s there we’ll never see him again."

"Are we looking for this truck?" Another female officer raised the picture over head.

"Yes, I want the driver arrested once we stop that truck." Lobo replied then walked to the front of the room and pointed to a large map on the wall. "I want a road block at this bridge that crosses over the Valdosta gorge. When I mean road block, I want police cars, heavily armed men and a helicopter."

"What are we looking for?" the female asked again.

"That red and white Kenworth. B.J. McKay will most likely be hauling the statues over the border for Johnny Smith. I want that truck stopped. If it fails to stop you have my permission to use force. When I mean force I don’t mean blow up that truck because there is a woman on there. She is caught in the middle of all of this ." Lobo said as he looked at everyone.

"Who is the woman?" The officer asked.

"Read the file." Lobo told him.
