CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
~~THE END~~
Four days later....
B.J. sat on the bed in his jail cell looking at the wall. The cell was small and bright. It had a set of bunk beds, small toilet in one corner and sink beside it.
Agent Higgins walked up. There was a loud tap on the cell bars and B.J. looked at him. "Your coming with me, Agent Lobo and I are going to talk to you." Higgins instructed as he opened the cell door.
B.J. stood up walked over with his hands out. "Here, I know the drill."
Higgins looked at B.J.. "You won’t be needing the hand cuffs this time." Higgins stepped to the side as B.J. walked out the cell. "That way." Higgins instructed to him as he pointed down the hall.
B.J. walked down the hall with Higgins behind him. They stopped at a door and Higgins opened it. They entered the room and B.J. sat down at a table. There sat Agent Lobo with a file in front of him. Higgins sat down next to Lobo at the table.
"I never thought I would see you or your truck out on the road hauling a load with the FBI tied to it.." Agent Lobo explained. "I thought you were through with trucking?"
"I was retired but opportunity came knocking at my door." B.J. replied as he looked at Lobo. "They say never let a good thing slip you by."
"I see what you mean." Lobo said.
"What I am being charged with?" B.J. asked as he leaned forward.
"After looking over documents that you had in your truck and talking to Jennifer Reid. The charges are dropped and you are free to go. The load you hauled was legal." Higgins told him as he opened the file and pulled out the papers and handed them to B.J. "You did the right thing on stopping Johnny from getting into Mexico. We thought you were in on it too." He took the papers and looked them over quickly. He set them down on the table.
"What about Johnny Smith?" B.J. asked.
"He will be put away for a long time. He also has a lot of charges against him from what happened. Charges include, numerous driving offenses, weapons charges, acts of terrorism, that are linked to him, conspiracy to commit an act of terrorism and grand theft over a million.." Lobo replied.
"We were on Johnny Smith after a five year investigation. He had a plan to steAl everything and be a global banker for terrorists. He’s a con artist that stole from the rich and kept it for himself. He conned you into hauling this load for him" Higgins added.
"Yeah, Johnny gave me five million reasons to haul for him." B.J. replied.
Lobo looked at Higgins. Lobo nodded his head.
Higgins reached for a briefcase under the table and handed it to B.J. "You have earned it fair and square. Here’s your money." B.J. took the briefcase and stood up. There was a knock on the door, the door opened and Jenna walked in with Bear.
"B.J.!" Jenna called out with happiness as she went over to hug him Bear walked over to B.J. and put his arms up. B.J. picked him up in his arms. B.J. smiled at Bear. Bear smiled a big grin at B.J.
"Ready to go trucking partner?" B.J. asked Bear as they were ready to leave the room. Jenna’s grandfather walked into the room also. He stood six foot, grey hair and beard. He wore a grey suit.
"I just wanted to thank you personally for trying to stop Johnny before he took the statues. I’m here to take Jenna back to New York." The man said as he stuck out his hand. B.J. shook hands with Jenna’s grandfather. "Well its time for me to hit the open road." B.J. said as he picked up the briefcase.
Lobo and Higgins followed them out the door and down the hallway. They left the building heading into the parking lot. Jenna’s grandfather stood by the building as the others walked away. B.J. looked up and seen his Kenworth sitting in the parking lot hooked up to his trailer. Jenna and B.J. walked over to the truck. Lobo and Higgins walked along behind them. B.J. walked around the front of the truck looking over his Kenworth. The windshields were replaced with new ones, the window wiper had been fixed and put back in its place, the upper corner of the cab on the passenger side was still pushed in a bit. The passenger side was still dented and scraped up from the damage the Peterbilt did just days ago. The grab handles were replaced, the passenger side door was replaced with a new white one with a new mirror. B.J. walked across the front of his truck looking more. The front bumper was replaced with a new one, the lower corner of the cab on the driver’s side was fixed up with new white panels and the headlights and casing for the headlights were replaced. He walked up to the driver’s side of his Kenworth. He looked back at the rear wheels. There were brand new tires and white rims put on instead of the aluminum rims he had on the truck before Johnny hit him.
"Who paid for all this?" B.J. asked as he opened the driver’s door. Bear climbed up into the truck. Lobo walked up. "I had your truck fixed just enough to get it road worthy for you to drive it home. There was some engine work done too. You needed a new radiator."
"Thanks." B.J. answered.
Lobo cleared his throat. "There will be another time, B.J., where you’ll cross over onto the wrong side of the law and I’ll be there to arrest you. Now get out of here before I have a local police officer pull you over and give you a ticket for being a public nuisance." Lobo and Higgins walked away.
Jenna walked up to B.J. She put her hands on his chest. "Well, it has been interesting being with you B.J. I really enjoyed our time together."
B.J. looked at her. "Its has been a blast, Jenna."
They looked at each other deep in the eyes B.J. leaned closer to Jenna. He put his arms around her and kissed her full on the lips. They stopped kissing and looked at each other
Jenna played with his button on his shirt. "I know where to find you if I need another load hauled."
"After all this, the highway is my home and I don’t know where the two lane blacktop will take me from here." B.J. said as he looked at her.
Jenna smiled back at him. B.J. let go of Jenna and climbed up into the cab with briefcase in tow. He sat in the driver’s seat looking down on Jenna.
"There is a picture of me in your visor." Jenna added. B.J. pulled the visor down and looked at the picture. "Thanks Jenna." He closed the door behind him, setting the briefcase on the console and reached for the key turning it. He pushed the silver button over the key and the engine fired up. He put the truck in gear and started off. The Kenworth crossed the parking lot. Jenna stood there watching the truck leave.
B.J. reached for the cord for the air horn and pulled it twice. HONK! HONK!! The Kenworth drove out of the parking lot heading out down the street. B.J. worked through the gears on his truck. He looked over at Bear. "Ready for more adventures partner?" Bear grinned at him.
Six Months Later....
B.J. closed the door on his Kenworth. He looked at his truck sitting back in the barn once again. He ran his hand over the lettering on the driver’s door. He walked around the front of the truck looking over it completely. Thoughts of him going down the highway filled his mind again. B.J. stood there thinking about what he did with his truck over the years. The many adventures of he and Bear had while on the road. Jennifer Reid’s beautiful smile crossed his mind. He smiled as he remember Jenna behind the wheel off his truck. Bear walked up beside him and raised his hand to B.J.
"Lets go Bear." B.J. said as he looked down at him. "Lets go teach you how to sing."
A sound of a diesel engine filled the driveway. B.J. snapped out of his thoughts as the sound grew louder and closer to the barn.
He held Bears hand as they walked out of the barn. "Remember walk like a man, kid."
They stepped out of the shadows of the barn. B.J. and Bear watched. A brand new Kenworth cabover Aerodyne, painted exactly like B.J.’s truck and trailer, drove up to the barn slowly pulling a 53 foot reefer trailer. The truck stopped near the door, the air brakes sounded as the engine shut off. The driver’s door opened. B.J. read the door. B.J.’s name was written on it. Jenna climbed down out of the cab of the new Kenworth.
"Jenna??" B.J. asked in shock
She looked at B.J. smiling. "Hi, B.J. It’s great to see you again"
"What’s this?" B.J. asked as he looked at the truck
"I had this truck ordered just for you. It was a custom order from the factory, it came in six weeks ago. She has everything that your old truck has with some new toys such as CD player, built in laptop computer with Internet access, all leather interior and cell phone." Jenna explained.
B.J. couldn’t answer right away then spoke. "I don’t know what to say Jenna. I was just thinking of you a few minutes ago."
"I am here in the flesh and not in your mind." Jenna told him smiling.
B.J. smiled back at her. Jenna went up to him and hugged him tight. "It’s great to see you again B.J. I have missed you." B.J. hugged her back just as tight. She let go of him and stepped back. "What do you think of the new truck and matching trailer?" B.J. looked at the truck and trailer. "Lets talk about it over a candle light dinner. What do you say about that?" "Sure. I’d like that." Jenna answered as she took B.J.’s hand.
They walked towards the house hand in hand while Bear strolled behind them
