Chapter Three
INCIDENT ON THE INTERSTATE

B.J. went back to the truck and climbed up into the cab. The door opened on the passenger side and Jenna climbed up into the seat. B.J. put the truck in gear and the Kenworth pulled out of the building. The truck made a wide left turn heading for the steel gate. B.J. rolled down the window catching the fresh morning air as the truck drove out of the compound. The truck drove passed a parked black four door Chevy.
A man, who sat behind the wheel, snapped the last picture of the truck. He put down the camera, picked up a cell phone and dialed a number.
"This is Agent Higgins, Operation Moneybags is a go. Put me through to Agent Lobo. I need to talk to him." the man said quickly.
He waited for a second.
A gruff voice came across. "Yeah, Lobo here."
"Your not going to believe this. I just seen Billie Joe Mckay leave here pulling that load." Agent Higgins explained as he started the car. "I have pictures of his truck leaving the compound."
"Your kidding right? You sure it was his Kenworth?" the man asked.
"I’d recognize that truck anywhere." Agent Higgins said. "I’ll email the pictures from the digital camera to you later."
He put the car in drive.
"This is great! I can now put him away with the other guy.." Lobo replied with happiness. "B.J. Mckay will be getting a long vacation courtesy of the F.B.I."
"I’ll follow him Agent Lobo. When do I catch Billie Joe?" Agent Higgins asked.
"Wait until he’s in California. I’ll be phoning SCAT and letting them know that Billie Joe McKay and his truck are heading that way. I want to see his face when I put the handcuffs on him one last time. Just follow him and don’t lose him." Lobo instructed. "Bye."
The Chevy drove down the street.
Two days later....
The Kenworth sped along a two lane highway that headed into the mountains. Jenna downshifted into a lower gear. The Kenworth started a climb up a long curve. She held the wheel steady as the truck made the curve.
B.J. sat in the passenger seat. The road straightened out. Jenna looked into the mirrors and shifted into a higher gear. The Kenworth’s engine roared picking up more speed.
"Drives good doesn’t it?" B.J. asked her.
"Handles well. Hugs the curves." she answered back as she looked over at B.J.
Jenna looked at the huge rock cuts on the passenger side as they whipped by fast. She glanced over to the driver’s side mirror and seen a grey Volvo, pulling an empty container chassis trailer, coming up behind. The grey Volvo sped up behind B.J.’s Kenworth keeping pace with it.
The Volvo stayed behind. Jenna looked into the mirror again. The truck was still close behind.
"What’s wrong?" B.J. asked.
"Come on dummy. You have plenty of room to pass." Jenna replied.
The Volvo pulled out into the passing lane and crept up beside B.J.’s Kenworth. Jenna looked over at the grey truck when the Volvo's passenger side window rolled down and a man with a Uzi, leaned out pointing it at Jenna.
"You better stop. You have something we want." the man yelled at her as he raised the gun towards her.
Jenna looked up ahead and looked back at the man. She turned the wheel over to the left quickly. The cabover Kenworth swerved over running up against the grey Volvo.
The man pulled the trigger. The gun jammed.
The side of the cabover hit the mirror on the Volvo crushing it. Bits of mirror fell between the cabs of the trucks. Jenna reached for the gun as the man tried to pull himself into the greg Volvo. Jenna held the gun and pulled it out of his hands. She swung the wheel back to the right and straightened out the Kenworth.
"Now I have something you want!" Jenna yelled back. "Go fetch." She dropped the gun between the moving trucks.
"Run him off the road, Jenna!" B.J. yelled.
Jenna grabbed the gear shift putting the truck into higher gear. The grey truck sped up beside the truck. It paced Jenna keeping the same speed she was driving. The Volvo swerved over into her lane. Jenna jerked the wheel to the right quickly. The Kenworth’s passenger side wheels came off the pavement and kicked up rocks on the shoulder as both trucks drove along the highway. B.J. looked down out the passenger side window. "We want him off the road, not us." The Volvo veered back over completely to the other side of the road.
Jenna looked over out the driver’s side window. "Brace yourself. It’s going to be a quick stop." B.J. grabbed for the dash. The Volvo swung back fast. Jenna reached for the trailer brake arm that is opposite the signal light arm and pulled it fast. The trailer’s wheels locked up and started to skid on the pavement. The Kenworth stopped fast. The Volvo crossed in front of B.J.’s truck. The chassis trailer missed the front bumper of the cabover. Jenna swung the wheel over to the left as fast as possible. The cabover veered around the Volvo as it headed towards the ditch. Jenna and B.J. watched quickly. The grey Volvo crashed into the ditch. The front tires went off the road. The Volvo tried to pull back onto the road but failed. The Volvo’s rear tires went off the shoulder. The truck lost control going up an angle. The truck rolled over on its passenger’s side taking the trailer with it. The truck came crashing down on its passenger’s side, crushing the cab as it slid into the ditch leaving a deep gouge. The empty trailer toppled over twisting the frame as it settled. The truck slid to a stop.
Jenna glanced into the passenger side mirror looking at the accident that just happened. She drove the Kenworth trying to put what take place behind her.
"Way to go Jenna!" B.J. cheered at her as she drove the truck.. He looked and seen the wreck as it disappeared out of site.
Jenna looked over at him. "Its not everyday that some nutcase tries to run me off the road.
B.J. leaned over and touched her shoulder. "What I seen, you did great. You didn’t panic or crash. Where did you learn to maneuver a truck like that?."
Jenna smiled "Defensive driving course. You learn to stop a truck with on many types of road surfaces with different types of trailers. Our trailer has hardly no weight so it was easy to pull a fast stop."
"Once this is all over, your more than welcome to drive with me." B.J. offered.
Jenna looked at him. "I’ll keep that in mind."
