Historical Accounts

Mount Vernon House Bredisholm House Baillieston House Garrowhill House Daldowie House

There are many articles and some books in Baillieston Library that deal with aspects of the history of the area and some of which are featured below. These various accounts of the history of Baillieston and the surrounding district are of an excellent standard, however there are many gaps and no account deals in any significant way with the district prior to 1800.  And although we have found from research that some statements and assumptions in these works are, in our opinion, wrong (in some cases very wrong) we are happy to publish them without further comment.

The Internet provides ease of access to some sources today that was denied these writers, although visits to archives and libraries resulting in long hard hours of research is still, by far, the main source of original information and baillieston.net has been doing this for over 3 years. Spectacular progress has been made with some very interesting discoveries made by this site that had hitherto never been publicised and every article written by us has accuracy as its prime aim. Therefore we are confident that anything written on behalf of this site is as accurate as is possible and historical interpretation is based on researched fact.

There is in fact a wealth of  yet unknown history associated with the district and we will continue to lead the search.
