Browse through these galleries, view the first ever map of the district from 1596 and photos from the 19th. century to the present day.
The largest photo archive of the Baillieston district in the world, the galleries include over 400 modern photos of the area and around 300 historical types - the earliest being a painting from 1616 AD and an engraving from the Battle of Culloden in 1746 - both of which have a local historical connection. There is also 50 ancient and historical maps of the district covering 5 centuries and many newly sourced original documents related to the district that were discovered during research by this site.
All in all, a massive 800 photos - each with its own descriptive narrative - which is almost a pictorial history and 'walkabout' of the district in itself, without putting your shoes on! We don't just take pictures - we tell the story behind the pictures.
These galleries are a genuine attempt to create a visual history of the district for posterity and any contributions - are most welcome. So if you have a photo of or about the area that you think is special and want to share it with the world let us know and we'll fix it for you.
