August 4, 1978 "Sandy got an article that said the Rollers are breaking up! We wrote the fan club about it!"
August 7, 1978 "Got a letter from Chris, Vicki, Georgia and Kellie. Also got fan club kit. It's great."
August 11, 1978 "Sandy Peffley wrote and sent me a nickel for me to send her a few of my labels. I did."
August 12, 1978 "Today was Beth's sixteenth b-day. Tess wrote! She sent me some pics of her. Got a letter from Vicki & a pic of her too."
August 13, 1978 "Called a Roller fan named Jackie. Thought about the Rollers all day long. I can't wait for their show! I wish their album would come out. Then they could have a tour. I hope they come here next year for the state fair."
August 14, 1978 "Les, Mari and a girl named Renee wrote today. Mari is so nice. She lives in Bonn, Germany."
August 18, 1978 "Sandy & I went to the fair with Robin, her sis and friend. Won a plate. Rode rides. Mostly Snow Ball Express. Had good time. Wore Roller gear. Tonite was the Osmond concert. Maria wrote and sent some small pix of Rollers. Sandy P., wrote, so did Georgia."
August 22, 1978 "Sandy and I went to the fair and saw Heart. Walter Egan played 1st. He pointed at me. We were almost in front. A couple short people in front of us. Steve Fosson of Heart smiled and opened his eyes real wide when I pointed at him. Walter gave one encore and Heart gave two. It was really super. . . won 9 dishes and the guy gave us the blue one. Took about 23 real close pictures." Wow, the guy gave us the blue one.
August 23, 1978 "Got a letter from Chris, Renee and Nan and an f.b. back. Wrote letters. A year ago today that the Rollers played here. I miss them so bad. I can't wait for their TV show. It starts September 9th. It's called 'The Kroft Superstar Variety Show.' I wish the Rollers' name was in the title. Oh well."
August 26, 1978 "There's a new Pope -- Pope John Paul I. Got Heart pictures back. Only got four and they're not too good. Should have used glash like I was, but I forgot it."
August 28, 1978 "Got a letter from Georgia, Sandy P., Mari, Stuert, and a letter and some magazines from Valerie."
September 2, 1978 "Got a letter from Jeannette and Sandy P. Also got a letter back that I sent to Valerie that didn't have enough postage on it. Can't wait for the Rollers' new album. It's called 'Strangers in the Wind' and Woody is going to sing a solo! I'm so happy about that. Hope it's released soon!"
September 6, 1978 "There was an explosion at Speedway High where Beth goes. It was a football game and she was there. I don't know how she is. I hope she's okay!" Beth was okay. It was Brett Kimberlin, the Speedway Bomber.
September 8, 1978 "Spent the night with Sandy. Sandy babysitted sp Dusty so we watched the Rollers special there. It was super! Got a letter from Janet and one from Sue & Colin."

My last entry for the year 1978 was on September 12, a Tuesday. This was the period of time when my mother had what we called then "a nervous breakdown." My life was pretty much turned upside down at that point, so there wasn't much time for diary writing. I started keeping a diary again starting January 1, 1979.
