
San Andres and surrounding areas are now designated as a UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) protected area. The area, which includes the entire Archipelago of San Andres, Old Providence, and Santa Catalina, is now identified as the Seaflower Biosphere Reserve.
