Welcome

Welcome to the Big 'n' Bostin' online almanac of the West Midlands region of the UK. This is a site for anyone with an interest in what goes on, or indeed 'went' on, in this wonderfully historic and diverse region of the United Kingdom. Whether you live here, used to live here or are considering coming here, I hope you will find lots of information about our region, of which we are extremely proud.

The West Midlands is a very large geographical area, from the celebrated pottery town of Stoke-on-Trent in the north, to the rural villages of Shakespeare's Warwickshire in the south, the region is nearly 100 miles from top to bottom. It is of similar dimensions going from the Herefordshire border with Wales in the west to the brewery town of Burton-upon-Trent in the east.

The West Midlands has a population of about 5 million people, which is the equivalent to the populations of a number of countries. The region also has one of the most diverse populations in the UK, outside of London. Many of the urban areas of the West Midlands, such as Birmingham and the Black Country were at the heart of the industrial revolution over 200 years ago and the area has been home to some of the world's most celebrated people, from J.R.R.Tolkien to Ozzy Osbourne.

We hope that you will join this group and contribute your own history, trivia, photos, maps, etc., etc, or use it for your studies and research. Please find out more about the Big 'n' Bostin' Heritage Company by visiting our other web pages at www.bignbostin.com and if you are interested in Disability History, visit our sister site Pinpoint Online at http://groups.msn.com/PinpointOnline/yourwebpage1.msnw

As they say in the Black Country "ow bin yer?" or to put it in plain English, "hello, good to see you and welcome to the Big 'n' Bostin' group website".

Pete Millington - Founder of the Big 'n' Bostin' Heritage Company
