Names: Baugh & Miller

I am working on a book which involves the above mentioned names.  I have informationon these Afrian-American families who were slaves in Middle Tennessee.  Willis Baugh joined the Confederacy with his former "master's' family and was interviewed in the Veterans of the Civil War!  Very interesting info.

I believe that Willis' mother was Miranda, who then became known as Ran Miller in Murfreesboro, TN.  She testified in a court cast involving the family she had been a slave in.  She seems to have known with Mrs. Baugh all her life and gives her advice.

I very much want to know more about Ran Miller and I would love to find a photo of her if one exists.  Her daughter was Jane Hoover. I have other information on these former slaves of Murfreesboro via property records... I would be happy to help in any way I can.

It is difficult for African Americans to trace their heritage, but I believe it is an important job and I greatly admire anyone who is doing it.

Thanks

Michelle

CHRISTIAN - FERGUSON - THOMPSON

I am researching my Mom's Dad family, the Christian, Ferguson & Thompson. The are orginally from Charolettesville, VA.  My maternal great grandfather (Philip Christian) married Catherine Rose Thompson whose parents are Rose Anna Ferguson & Alfred Thompson.  Alfred and his brother (name unknown) purchased property in Charolettesville in 1867.

Rose and Alfred had other children by the name of Ada, Fred and Ulyses Grant Thompson.  Rose had a brother named Robert.  Ada married a man by the last name of Parker and Grant has at least 2 sons, James and Harry.  Harry married and had 4 children ( Harry, Jr., Cassandra and Rosa) and moved to Pittsburgh,  PA.

Catherine was born 1886 and married Philip who was born 1874.  They moved to PA and had 6 children, Alfred, William, Elizabeth, Hilda, James (my maternal grandfather) and Helen.

If you know any thing about these people please contact me.  There will be a family reunion August 4, 5 & 6, 2006 in the Pittsburgh, PA  area.

Hello All,

I am new to this website.  I have been searching for my maternal ancestor's for a little over threeyear's.  I have hit a brick wall and I am hoping that someone read's my message and will recognize a name.  Here is what I have dug up so far...

According to family history, we are the descendant's of Elvira Woodson of Abbeville, South Carolina.  She had three children all born into slavery.  Thier name's were:  Kissi Craft, Lodge Woodson and Buddy Woodson.  After the Cival War, they continued to live in Abbeville.  According to oral account's, Buddy went into town to sell some cotton and he never returned from his trip.  The family was told that some white men had killed him and put his body in the river or creek.  They were afraid of what might happen to them, so they packed thier belongings and moved to Columbia, South Carolina.

Kissi was the mother of seven children.  Their name's were:  Minnie Craft, Edward (Craft?), Lucile Powell, Matilda (Craft?), Caleb Craft, and Jane Goodwin.  Minnie Craft was my gg-grandmother and the oldest of Kissi's children.  Minnie had five children.  Their name's were:  Robert Craft, Elizabeth Craft, Willie Craft, Enestine Craft and Lucile Craft.  Robert was a master house builder.  He built Minnie a house on Heidt street in Columbia.  He also built her a house at 1110 Page St. where Minnie moved her family to.

Elizabeth Craft was my g-grandmother.  She had four children.  Their name's were:  Vertis, Adell, Bertha and Marie.  Elizabeth Craft married my g-grandfather Royal Taylor.  She was married before to a man named Edward Sims.  This was found on the 1910 State Census.  Vertis was his daughter.  No one know's what happend to him, whether he died or what, but Elizabeth then married Royal Taylor.  His nickname was Tank.  The sister's and their mother and father all lived in the same area which was in the Senate St. area in Columbia, South Carolina.

Bertha Taylor was my grandmother.  She had five children.  Their name's are:  Roslyn Valorie Taylor, Andrea Marie Meredith, William Royal Meredith, George Edward Meredith and Faye Elizabeth Meredith.  Bertha met and married a man in the army and moved to Michigan with his family.  His name Was William "Bill" Meredith.  George, who we affectionatly called "Papa" died in 1988, my grandmother, Bertha died in 2000.  My grandfather died in 2001 and Andrea who we called "Kiki" died in 2003.

If anyone has any information on the "Craft Women" as I like to call them, please post anything that you know.  It will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
