D Map Pages: Trail Pages Links Entire Area Links Black Hills Trails by Section Links Park Trails Links Printable Trail Maps Links Maps Types Explained 1) Trail Pages organize maps according to trail area and specific trail. Maps include some physical relief maps and about 150 aerial photos and 150 topographic maps from both TopoZone and TerraServer map servers. Our links zero in on the trail area. These include topo maps for all trails and aerial photos for all except the Fossil Exhibit Trail. 2) Entire Area Links. These include maps of the entire Black Hills or of large portions of it, such as South Dakota Hills or Wyoming Hills. Many of these maps show the location of the trails but not the details of the trails. 3) Black Hills by Section. Trail maps outside the parks are included. State and national parks are excluded here. Here are trails in the Bear Lodge Mountains, Northern Hills, Central Hills, Black Elk Wilderness and Norbeck Wildlife Preserve. 4) Parks of the Black Hills and Badlands Area. Included are trails in Custer State Park, Wind Cave National Park, and Badlands National Park. 5) Printable Trail Maps. These maps are mostly topographic. Included on these pages are those maps designed to be printed and carried upon the trail. About half are provided by the Forest Service, and about half are our own work. These same maps are linked from the Trails Pages along with aerial and topos from Topozone and TerraServer. 6) Map Types Explained. This page explains, and provides samples of, seven different types of maps which are available through our links or may be purchased online. Links are provided to Forest Service offices and to map retailers. |
