THE MUMMY-1932 It comes to life!
In one of his best performances Boris Karloff plays Imhotep, the mummy who is accidentally revived after 3,700 years by a British archaeology team. Exceptional makeup, dialogue, atmosphere and direction makes this one of the all-time classic horror films.
An 1921 Egyptian field expedition discovers the mummy of an ancient Egyptian prince named Imhotep. A young member of the expedition, using the Scroll of Thoth, which can bring the dead back to life and was also found in the tomb reads the scroll out loud. As Imhotep returns to the living the young man goes insane.
Ten years later in the guise of a modern Egyptian, Ardath Bay, Imhotep searches for his lost love. He finds Helen Grosvenor, the reincarnation of the ancient princess, and uses his mystic powers to mesmerize her.
In a flashback scene we find that he was a high priest who was embalmed alive for trying to revive his true love, a vestal virgin, after she was sacrificed. Frank Whempleand and Dr. Muller attempt to discover the key to Ardath Bay's powers and get Helen back.
