Life On Earth
Is it in my garden?
All plants therein lavished with care
To nourish and to pamper;
That some are abloom and blazing
In myriad of colors
To tease the nectar suckers.
Where there are foliages of velvet
In hues of emerald and gold
Yet, why are others sulking -
Ungreen with envy,
Wrinkled, withered, and dying,
As a stricken man succumbs to rot?
I have no favorites, as Allah has none.
Has Mr. destiny, then, poked his
Lethal tetanus fingers into my domain?
Or are some plants wiser
In that they have learned to store
In their stems and roots
All the rainwater they can hold
Until the next summer rain?
Or have they been taught in time
To grow straight and strong
But still pliant enough
To sway with the buffetings
Of a stormy weather?
Is Life on earth
Life in my garden?
