I got caught in a "bow stern pin" so I'm told it is called.  I tried everthing to not have to get out of the boat.  The water pressurefinally popped my sprayskirt and I was forced to get out of the boat.  Truthfully, I was going to have to get out of the boat even if my skirt didn't come off!

I figured I better start doing some of the big water around here.  The Savage was releasing at a solid class IV level so I made the trip.  I did well on all the bigger rapids and then toward the end of the run I found myself upside down.  Don't even know what I flipped on.  It turns out I was on the last wave of the last of the big rapids.  Not knowing what was ahead of me, I hurried three roll attempts and then pulled.  It turns out I was then in relatively calm water and could have easily rolled up.  Don't you hate it when that happens?  Still need to work on staying loose in bigger water.

It was my day to shine, did some roll practice in eddy lines did a nice squirt and roll @ the squirt spot and combat rolled as I avoided gettingspeared by Rex @ the Jimy Hendrix wave. It all ended when I backed in to that tricky wave below Titanic flipped did three roll atempts and punched out. Swam @ the take out wave as I got raked down the wall and have scratches in my new helmet to show for it.

I was going through a rock garden backwards and hit a rock and found myself upside down in about a foot maybe foot and a half water, I probably should have stuck it out a little bit longer but punched out. Anyways I got a copy of EJ's roll video from Kalon and with any luck I'll be back to my rolling ways in no time.

It seems as though my roll has dissapeared.  I was playing on the wave below Rex's hole and found myself upside. I gave three quick roll attempts and then the swimming commenced.  I think my head is coming up first and leading the way to my recent swimming.

It has been 2 and a half years since my last swim in the Circus Hole on RR.  Wish I could say this one was just as exciting, but no.......Iflipped in the wavehole at Hydro, felt my paddle diving on the squirrelly eddy line, gave three futile attempts, then bailed out.  Now that the pressure is off, except for further public humiliation, I won't have to hold anything back in the Holetime Hoedown.

It seems as though I was practicing my fast water jettison techniques yesterday.  It all started at the put in were I found myself ferryingto river left, just as I crossed the eddy line I could feel a boil grab my tail and over I went.  I gave a few attempts at a roll, 6 to be exact but suddenly I remembered that maybe I should warm up my ejection seat for the falls to come, which by the way I would have to say was good planning on my part. As we approached the falls I could feel the nerves kick in and the fingernail biteing commenced. I kept playing all the possible outcomes over in my head, and all of them kept ending in karnage.  The whistle blew it was my turn.  As I began to approach the first slide I kept thinking man this slide is a little bigger than I thought, with Tommy C's advice replaying over and over in my head "just give it a little right agle and paddle".  So that's what I did and sure enough I punched through the first slide unscathed, as I began approaching the drop all I could think was paddle paddle paddle!!! Boof Boof Boof!!! Before I knew it I was at the bottom and everyone was cheering.  I remember thinking wow I just did it as I began paddling towards what I thought was an eddy.  As I began to relax I remember thinking oh no the current is pushing me towards that tree stump and those rocks, for some reason I kept looking at  them thinking oh no there going to flip me over and sure enough over I went.  I found myself flipping between two rocks and a little pourover; between my head bouncing off the rocks and my paddle getting caught up, I pulled the rip cord and out I came.  Well folks I'm going to have to apologize for this one but my fingers are getting a little tired so here goes number three.  I ran the falls in an attempt to redeem my first run down and well you guessed it I swam!!!

I was more concerned with going over tha falls than punching through the top.  Took it a little to easy and over I went.  Tried to roll but had trouble get my paddle around as my knuckles were bouncing off the bottom. Finally got a chance to try and roll but I was heading over the falls.  Once I was below I began to set up to roll but realized I needed air quicker.  Should have held on for a few more seconds!

I thought I was golden when I made my 1st combat roll of the season early on in the run. I was wrong and swam in the slolom course after gettingcaught up in some funky water. Swim # 2 for the day was @ the end on RR drop. I pointed for Steve's yellow helmet sticking up over the horizon line and in to the slot and the meat of the hole and you all know the rest. Another great day on a new creek with the BCCKC. Thank God I didn't have to break out the crack cream!

Did fine in Little Rocky Glen until the end, boofed off the rock in the middle, landed in the hole to the right, flipped, 2 poor roll attempts, no luck. Swam.  Jay was there for a bow rescue, but I didn't know it.

Got through the first set of tough rapids didn't notice that rock ended up upside down on the back couldn't set up for the roll and punched out. Second swim was on the middle part of Lamoka hit a hole hit a slot and you know the rest. I shook myself off got back in the boat and nailed the drop. I'm off to watch EJ's roll vidio

I pulled up along the river right shore with two paddles in hand and got broached on a slightlysubmerged cedar. My boat sucked under while my torso was caught above on the tree. Got upside down and, still stuck, I tried to work off the tree but my paddle was ripped away by the force of the current. After 4 years I almost forgot what a grab loop was, funny how fear of death jogs the memory. I kept the boat in hand and noticed the Kodak disposable camera floating nearby and saved it as well, enjoy the pics. http://gallery.mac.com/fisherts#100005

Finally got to paddle the Blacklick.  Nice creek, great surfing and only one rather tough rapid.  Auld Falls is the culprit.  Missed my line and went over sideways- they said it was very entertaining watching me get trashed around.  Unfortunately in the process my knee came out of the brace.  Should have gone to my off side, but pulled instead.  Incidently, if during a swim you lose your air pumping bulb for your happy feet in a Jackson it will cost you $10 for a new one.

Apparently the river gods didn’t like me busting on Geren for his lame attempt at battling the hole at haystacks. It was around noon when I took the center line down Haystacks today, and it was lunch time. The river gods served up a nice tall glass of karma and a heaping plate full of my own words. After a brief side surf in the hole I knew the camera was recording video so I flipped upside down and reached for the bottom with my paddle to flush out of the hole and show Geren how it’s done. I figured I was out of the hole so I tried to roll up and missed it. I wanted to try again but I couldn’t believe how desperately I needed to put some air in my lungs. I simply had to choose between hitting one last roll attempt or just pulling out for some air. To make a long story short I took the easy way out and my hole battling at a much lower level probably looked even more pathetic that Geren’s. At least now my swimless streak is broken and I can swim in the  “Hole Time Hoe Down” with no worries.
