Karen: There is a quote that I have felt appropriate since my mom was diagnosed with a brain tumor and that is "hope is energy, It arouses the mind to try every door" My mom too had surgery at Mayo in July 07. Dr. Marsh was the surgeon and she saw Dr.Uhm, Neuro-onc. We live in Chicago. She went to see Dr. Fine and has had 3 rounds of Temodar and now has a "new activity" (according to Dr. Fine) that was not seen by her NO here in Chicago. They are not sure if it is necrosis or not so have ordered a MRS,MR perfusion and a PET scan. Dr. Fine had told us that more surgery was a liklihood in the future. My point being , get another opinion. Dr. Howard FIne at NIH is amazing! My mom changed Neuro-onc Dr's last week because hers' just was not on the ball. I asked her new doc Jeff Raizer at Northwestern what his thoughts were on exciting treatments out there for GBM and he said he was very interested in Transmolecular or TM-601. Get another opinion as soon as possible. Best of luck to your sister. She is in my prayers Karen d/o Lynn,63 GBM 7/07 temodar/radiation ended 9/24 10/24-2nd opinion NIH, Dr.Fine 2 rounds 5/23 Temodar anemia 3rd rd of Temodar last week NiH states new activity 1/11 Scheduling scans 9-26-06
