Penicillin G Potassium powder

Penicillin’s are relatively safe antibiotics, which can be given orally or by injection. There are many forms of penicillin, so dosages vary greatly. Inadequate doses or treatment periods, or over dosage, can cause significant problems. Signifigent improvement should be seen in a time frame of just a few hours to no longer than 3 days depending on the volume of penicillin being delivered. If no improvement is seen stop administering and seek a proper diagnosis. Claims have been made that Pen-G is slow to absorb not reaching proper blood levels. Pneumonia (shipping fever complex) caused by Streptococcus spp., Corynebacterium pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Intramuscular injection.

Dosage is dependent upon units and body weight. Label should specify the number of units to be delivered. 1 cc (ml) per 100 lb for 3-5 days is a common dose for mammals. Though you will find it can be used at higher dosages and/or given under the skin (SQ) rather than in the
muscle (IM) due to its slow absorption rate. Can be used for bacteria related issues from wounds, bumble foot caused by staff. Rates for poultry use vary from 1/5- .2 ml to ¼ - .25 ml/cc lb. once or twice daily depending upon the severity of the infection. Only for 3 to 7 days. Many recommend the first initial dose at a higher rate then tapering off as treatment continues. Pen-v has a higher absorption rate than Pen-G.
