Frequently Asked Questions

- Current as of September 12/ 07 -

How do I join the library?

Your $10 membership fee entitles you to the use of the resources listed here. You must also join the MSN group to receive updates when new books are added to the booklist.

How much does it cost to join? Due to the cost of replacing lost and stolen resources we are now asking for a $10 , non-refundable, annual membership fee.
How much does it cost to borrow a book? We ask that you pay the shipping cost to borrow and return books. We have obtained permission to use library rates to mail our books. Two way shipping for most books will usually be between $1.25 - $3.00. For larger packages, it may be as high as $5.00. See the Postage Costs Page for more information.
What if I can't afford to pay the postage to borrow a book?

This library belongs to the Lord, and He will provide. If you are truly unable to pay a dollar or two to borrow a book, we will cover the cost ourselves, as the Lord provides.

What should I do if I lose my return mailing label?

With the new electronic label system now in place I am no longer able to issue replacement labels. If you lose your return label you will need to mail the parcel back at your own expense. Please email me for the mailing address.
How many books may I borrow?

Your first request may be limited to one book if I don't already 'know' you. When you've returned your first item on time and in good condition you will be able to borrow more than one at a time.

How do I know when and how to return a book? Books are loaned for approximately 6 weeks. Each parcel will have an instruction sheet listing date due & postage cost, and explaining when and how to return it. A pre-paid return mailing label will also be enclosed. To return items, simply paste the return mailing label over the previous label, seal well and drop in any mailbox. Return postage is paid at this end.
What if the book I want is already out on loan?

Books are reserved on a 'first come - first served' basis. I'll email you when the book you've reserved is available, before sending it out. There may be a waiting list for popular items.

How do I pay for the postage? Send your payment back when you return the book(s). Most folks just send coins (taped to the box or inside an envelope), but a cheque is fine.
Do you lend anything other than books? I am only able to mail printed matter (books) using Library Mail Rates at this time. I will loan other items if you are willing to pay full parcel-post rates each way. Please email me for more info.
If I donate, how are the funds used? First, I will never ask you to donate. Membership monies and any goodwill offerings sent in will be used to purchase more resources and envelopes for mailing.  The books you see here are books from my own library, books I have purchased for this library with my own money, books purchased with membership monies or items donated by other generous folks!   My husband says as long as there's food in the fridge, he doesn't mind if I scrimp a little for more books!
If I donate, will I receive a tax receipt? No.  At this time we are a non-profit organization, like a Scout group, but we are not a registered charity and are not able to give you a tax receipt for any donation.

So, who are you?

I'm wife to dh Graham, (18 years), and mum of one ds15.

I started homeschooling over 10 years ago as an uptight, "school-at-home", over-scheduler, but I've relaxed (a lot) over the years.  We live in the small town of Chesley, Ontario, with our fat grey tabby cat, and a friendly mini-dachshund dog.

Health problems prevent me from being as active in homeschooling circles as I would wish to be, so I turn to the Internet.  And as you probably can guess, this is a family that loves wholesome books.

As a woman, I fail every day, but my Saviour graciously forgives me and leads me on, baby steps sometimes, but forward none-the-less.  I hope I can be a blessing to your life, by offering these resources that have meant so much to our homeschool journey.

Where did all these books come from?

Most of these books are from our home library. When we started homeschooling "officially" dh gave me the best piece of advice (probably while I was panicking over something): "Teach yourself". By that he meant, I needed to grow and learn, just as much as ds.

Ever since, a portion of our budget has been set aside for the purchase of resources for me. Some books I read and re-read every year; others I read once and never pick up again.

When my shelves were full of books I seldom used, I felt the Lord telling me to share them.  Since I only knew a handful of homeschoolers at the time I wasn't sure how that would happen - but He worked it out - and now these books have been shared all across Canada. All the glory goes to the Lord.

What if I'm not finished with the book when it's due back? If no one has reserved the book you may renew it for 30 days. Just email me!
I live in the US, may I borrow books?

Due to postal regulations, I am only permitted to mail library books within Canada. The cost to mail parcels to the US (regular parcel rate, $8-$10 each way) would be prohibitive.

There are at least 3 national lending libraries in the US, see the links on the left for more info.
