This was our first time on a canal boating holiday and we couldn't fault them. The staff were very friendly and helpful even down to the dog, Oliver!
The boat we had was lovely, room enough for the 5 of us. There was bunk beds but our 2 lads prefered to use it as a double because there was more room for them.
As me and Carl (Del) are not car drivers, Ashby arranged for us to be picked up at Nuneaton railway station and got us a taxi to take us back at the end of our hols.
We were given tuition before we set of on our own and our tutor was very patient especially with me asking him questions!!
All in all an excellent company who we could find no fault with.

An excellent company to deal with. They were very helpful from when we left the boatyard and when we got back!
Although we havehad some experiance of canal boats, they still took the time to go over everything, including steering the boat and going through a set of locks.

If you are looking for a hire firm a bit more south, I can highly recommend Rose Narrrowboats in Rugby. They are a small, very friendly family run business, with a very good, reasonably priced fleet. Take a look at their web site.
I've used them twice before and would definately use them again.

This is a small fleet of two boats, Thomas and Brunel. Both are similar in that they are traditional style for the serious discerning boater. Brothers Garry and Graham Digget insist that you have much narrowboating experience under your belt before hiring. And when you see the boats you'll see why. A 55ft fully portholed heavy weight with a traditional engine mounted midships. Forward of the engine room, is the toilet and shower, permanent double bed, and next is a well appointed galley, then saloon with two single easy chairs, heating provided by a Morso Squirrel stove with back boiler and radiators.
Aft of the engine room is the boatmans cabin, with two single berths. High floor (low ceiling) in here due to the prop shaft from the engine.
We hired Thomas for a fortnight in late season and navied the Cheshire Ring. Some days were cold and the heat from the engine kept the steerer warm. (Stand on the top step with the rear doors closed and the hatch pulled close). And the residual heat from the engine helped keep the boat warm in the evenings. There were times when we had to open the front doors to let it out. Absolutely the best hireboat we've had. Pictures posted in Pictures section.

View the details of this row. Black Prince Stoke on Trent, ....alll over the place We've always had no trouble with this company. The boats have been exactly as we had anticipated, and the staff before and after the cruise have been more than helpful. We feel as though we're going to the family when we go on holiday with them. Their new boatyard in Napton was lovely. although the left turn out of it along the Oxford was a bit naughty, but OK if you take your time. Our plans are for a trip on the Caldon and Leek, and eventually we might get up to do the Falkirk Wheel. Please don't be afraid to try BP. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
