Story: Several discussions of late about the recent alpine water fishers accidents with the use of fisher persons wearing waders while in boats.
As a result of recent deaths the RVAC committee members are trying to help warn Alpine Water fishermen about not wearing long wander type trousers when in boats, due to the fact they can fill up with water and restrict your ability to stand-up or even swim. Wanders can fill up fast if the boat is swamped by a wave and the boatie falls overboard which has lead to recent drownings.
Please take them off when in the boats. |

Story: The Sydney Morning Hearld Plan for marine park makes waves in sleepy town By Wendy Frew, Environment Reporter January 30, 2006
SOMETHING fishy is going on in the sleepy town of Durras on the far South Coast. A little more than a week ago about 100 people - many of them fishermen, some local residents - stormed a meeting of the Friends of Durras environment group. After stacking the membership, they took over the meeting, ousted the office bearers, and elected themselves. Accounts vary of events that Saturday, but some deposited membership fees in the Friends of Durras account a day earlier without telling the treasurer. Others had yet to pay up. Days later, the coup members closed the account and moved the money to a new account, which has since been frozen. The events have taken place at a time when fishermen are livid about a State Government proposal for a marine park around Batemans Bay - a plan the Friends of Durras supports. Dr Jon Jenkins, a member of the Legislative Council and the Outdoor Recreation Party, warned the Government to heed community anger about threats to recreational fishing. The outspoken opponent of marine parks applauded the coup and said residents of coastal communities should stack the membership of more community green groups. But he denied any prior knowledge of the takeover. An accountant from Griffith, Ross Anderson, appears to have led the coup. Mr Anderson, who owns a holiday house in the town, joined Friends of Durras weeks ago because he believed it had become undemocratic. He said members were harassing dog owners, jet skiers and fishermen. He denied the takeover had anything to do with Friends of Durras's support for a marine park, but conceded it was "not that dissimilar to branch-stacking". Mr Anderson said he accepted money from and handed out receipts to new members but failed to tell the treasurer: "They may have been ambushed, they may not have been … I don't agree it was deceptive but I agree it was irregular. I think the Durras community felt there was a small, insular group making representations to the media, to government but that did not voice the views of the wider community." The president of the Friends of Durras, Geoff Bartram, said his group had never claimed to represent the entire community and that he had invited a representative of the fishing community to put its case. But he said the arrival of 100 new members took him by surprise. "We understand not everyone agrees with us … but the world has changed since the days when people could fish whenever and where ever they want." His group is taking legal advice on events at the meeting and the change of bank accounts. |

Story: Bob Carr has resigned from his position as NSW Premier. One of the best news stories that has come from the NSW Parliament in years. Bob Carr introduced a range of interferring bills and amendments to the parliament as Premier. Interferring with local councils and authorities like planning, taxes, marine. One that greatly affected PWC use is the Sydney Harbour and Parramatta river bans, with many small local community groups like those of FoD thinking they could jump onto the ban wagon. Good Bye Bob Carr, we hope you fade away like Neville did........ |

The proposal was following recent anouncement by the NCPA saying they would reconcider the use of the lake to powercraft and PWC events. Mark says the first meeting and presentation to hold a National short circuit and enduro event on the main basin of Lake Burley Griffin went well. The NCPA thought the event had merit and wish to expand the idea further. Good work Mark. P |

Story: Narooma News Have your say - PWC (Jetski's) Steve Kaniowski Friday, 8 April 2005
While I do not live down the coast I have family who does. I have been watching this debarcle ever since it was brought to my attention. This is simply a witch hunt by a minority in council who are unable to accept the real statistics and information provided by user groups. If this minority in council feel persistence pays off then imagine what else they can do just because they have a "gripe". What next? Seriously NSW is becoming the "no fun" state. Use the fees paid by the PWC operators appropriately by the way in which it was promised and that is policing and education. None of which we have seen since the massive hike in registration and licencing a few years back.

Story: Narooma News Call to move on jetski issue Jocelyn Righton Wednesday, 2 March 2005
PUBLIC Forum time at Eurobodalla Shire Council's general meeting for February attracted a question from Richard Fisher on behalf of the local group concerned about the use of jetskis on the Nature Coast.
The question related to a motion carried at a Eurobodalla Shire Council meeting on August 10 that a working party would be formed to investigate areas in the Shire's waterways that would be suitable for jetski use.
In his question Mr Fisher said that on that day Council had also agreed to conduct a review of its personal water craft strategy on April 26.
Points raised by Mr Fisher to councillors included when the working party would be formed, who would sit on it, and what operating guidelines would be set by council.
He asked for the proposed working party to be formed soon so that its findings could be included in the April 26 review.
Mr Fisher said after the meeting that it was important that the working party was set up because NSW Maritime's present trial exclusion zones would be reviewed on September 1 this year.
If no recommendations were forthcoming from Council, the authority could lessen, increase or abandon the existing exclusion zones. |

Story: Member for the Southcoast Minister for the Environment I would like to seek your support and ask the question as to how did the Cullendulla Creek at Batemans Bay of the NSW Southcoast get re-opened to the general public boating without allowing it to be tested against the rules of the Restriction Trail. The Trial is set to close on 1 September 2005. How or why did the Minister and the NSW Maritime Authority not consider to enforce the closure to "fuel driven" boats. This area is a RESERVE why are PWCs that are now utilising modern technical improvements like 4-stroke engines that are quieter than boats not be allowed to conduct fishing for the same reasons as other boating. Office of Member for South Coast Many thanks for your email. Shelley has asked me to let you know that she will take the matters raised into consideration, will discuss and will also pass your email on to the Member for Bega, Andrew Constance MP under whose jurisdiction the Batemans Bay area falls. |

Story: Cullendulla Creek powerboat restrictions liftedThursday, 31 March 2005. 11:34 (AEDT)Thursday, 31 March 2005. 10:34 (ACST)Thursday, 31 March 2005. 10:34 (AEST)Thursday, 31 March 2005. 11:34 (ACDT)Thursday, 31 March 2005. 08:34 (AWST) The NSW maritime authority has lifted a restriction that prevented powerboat users from using a popular Eurobodalla waterway. NSW Maritime says it will now allow powerboats in Batemans Bay's Cullendulla Creek, after a plea from the local community. Residents recently put a case to the Government and Eurobodalla Shire Council, saying they need to use small runabouts and tinnies to fish or to access shops on the other side of the river. The state maritime authority agreed to lift the restriction on small powerboats, but says the ban will stay on jet skis and other recreational water craft. Meanwhile, the authority says a full appraisal of a trial presently being conducted on jet ski exclusion zones in the Batemans Bay area will be carried out once the trial finishes on September 1. It says a small number of infringement notices have been issued to riders of personal water craft operating in the exclusion zones in January and February. http://www.abc.net.au/news/items/200503/1335101.htm?southeastnsw |

Story: BAN ON JETSKI ACCESS TO DURRAS BEACHES AND LAKE Background: FOD and other coastal community groups formed the loose coalition ‘The Jet-Ski-Free Nature Coast Network’ in April this year. While still operating independently, this gave additional force to our arguments for restricting jetski access to Shire beaches and waterways. Council was persuaded firstly to include the Network as active participants in a workshop on the issue of jetski access held in June (originally this event was proposed as a closed, ‘in house’ information event for the incoming Councillors), and secondly into opening this event to the public........
