In chat tonight, someone gave a link to an interesting website which I would like to share with you all.

Disability Evaluation Under Social Security
(Also known as The Blue Book)
Medical criteria for evaluating Social Security disability claims

Contains the list of physical and mental impairments that SSA considers to be so serious that a person with such impairments is found "disabled."

The Blue Book has separate sections for adults and children, describes the basic disability determination process used by SSA, and provides specific guidelines for developing the disability claim file based on the type of impairment. The information in the Blue Book is useful in properly documenting claims for disability benefits

This edition of Disability Evaluation Under Social Security has been specially prepared to provide physicians and other health professionals with an understanding of the disability programs administered by the Social Security Administration. It explains how each program works, and the kinds of information a health professional can furnish to help ensure sound and prompt decisions on disability claims.

View it online at: http://www.ssa.gov/disability/professionals/bluebook/

Or to get your own copy of the Social Security "listings," write a letter and ask for it.  It's free.

Ask for the book "Disability Evaluation Under Social Security."

The address is:

Social Security Administration
Public Information Distribution Center
P.O. Box 17743
Baltimore, MD 21235-6401

You can also fax your request to them, at (410) 965-0696.  Some people call it the "Blue Book."  It is also known as SSA Publication Number 64-039.
