Welcome to Celtic Origins

Welcome to Celtic Origins, a place to share knowledge of our Celtic origins.  There are eight Celtic Nations represented by the above national flags, and I hope individuals with an interest in any or all of these nations will join us.

Celtic Origins is an interactive site.  I would like members to participate and share their knowledge as we delve into our proud heritage and come to know our ancestors and the world in which they lived.

This site also explores the history of the Celts, their myths and legends, and recent archaeological discoveries from ancient times.  We also share jokes, not necessarily Celtic in nature.

I will do all I can to research the genealogical origins and backgrounds of Celtic names, and provide a coat of arms whenever possible.  Most of my knowledge and research is restricted to the surnames of Ireland, Scotland and Wales, but I hope to include surnames from the remaining Celtic nations.  Members who have knowledge of the genealogy of the others are encouraged to share.  In this way, hopefully, we can learn from each other.

As I am also interested in heraldry, there is a rudimentary glossary of heraldic terms together with albums containing the coats of arms, clan badges and tartans for a number of surnames.  There are coats of arms posted for surnames of Brittany, Cornwall, Galicia, Ireland, Scotland, the Isle of Man and Wales.
