Mary "Ann" Gravley, {WWHS Class of 1955} born Oct. 19, 1937, at Man, died at 12:50 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital of a heart attack. She went to meet her reward surrounded by her loving husband, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many loving friends and relatives. She was a homemaker and was the owner of Gravley’s Greenhouse for many years. She was an active member of Spoken Word Tabernacle at Beaver for the last 41 years. She loved to garden, sew, quilt and raise beautiful flowers. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her father, William "Arthur" Lehman; a sister, Linda Sue Lehman; and a great-grandson, Andrew Mark Gravley. She is survived by her mother, Blanche Lehman, of Beckley; her husband of 50 years, Charles "Bert" Gravley of Old Eccles Road; three children, Patricia Gravley, William "Bill" Gravley and David "Bert" Gravley and his wife, Lisa, all of Beckley; nine grandchildren, Michael Gravley and his wife, Charissa, of Johnson City, Tenn., Celestial Wiggins and her husband, Sean, of Johnson City, Daniel Gravley and his wife, Joanna, of Daniels, Matthew Gravley of Beckley, Amanda Gravley of Ripley and Kristin, Kayla, Emily and Rachael Gravley, all of Beckley; two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Kate Gravley of Johnson City; five brothers, Gene Lehman and his wife, Janet, of Shady Spring, Orville Lehman and his wife, Nelda, of Beckley, Jerry Lehman of Terre Haute, Ind., Douglas Lehman and his wife, Rita, of Hollywood, Ala., and Kenny Lehman and his wife, Candi, of Durbin; five sisters, Audra Mastroppolito of Sophia, Virginia Lilly and her husband, Charles, of Peoples, Ohio, Evonne Stanley of Beckley, Kathy Seaman and her husband, Chester, of Charleston, S.C., and Nancy Stanley and her husband, Warner, of Prosperity; nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 24, at Spoken Word Tabernacle, Scott Ridge Road, Beaver, with the Rev. Roy Shrewsbury officiating. Burial will follow in Canaday Cemetery, Glen View. James Paul Perkins, of Crab Orchard, went to rest in the loving arms of the Lord at 8 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2006, at the age of 61 years, after a battle for three months with many illnesses associated with open-heart surgery. Mr. Perkins was born Dec. 28, 1944, in Beckley, a son of the late Hayden Walter Perkins and Glidie Sneed Perkins. Mr. Perkins was a disabled coal miner who had spent his life on Old Grove Road in Crab Orchard. He was of the Baptist faith.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dana Lynn Perkins; and his brothers, Bill, Jerry, Charlie and Richard Perkins. Those left with very fond memories of him are his daughter, Melissa Annette Allen,  and his son-in-law, Timothy “Rob” Allen, and his three grandsons,David Russell “Rusty” Allen, Derrick Ray “Ricky” Allen and Dustin “Ryan” Allen.Other survivors include his brother, Frank Perkins of Crab Orchard; a sister, Shelby Perkins Tipton of Crab Orchard, where Mr. Perkins made his home; brothers, Hayden “Pete” Perkins and Johnny Perkins of Beckley; and a sister, Betty Simcox of Pennsylvania. A celebration of Mr. Perk-ins’ life will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Billie Waddell officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Arrangements by Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley.


Geneva Mae Pittman, 74, of Glen White, died Wednesday, April 5, 2006, with her family by her side at Raleigh General Hospital.Born Sept. 19, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Willie Hopkins and Exie Crawford Hopkins.She was preceded in death by an infant son and two brothers, Robert and Clifford. Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, Guy Pittman; sons, David Pittman and wife, Sandra, of Sophia and Richard Pittman and wife, Vickie, of Crab Orchard; daughter, Ramona Cummings and husband, Steven, of Mabscott; brothers, Douglas Hopkins and wife, Patricia, of Crab Orchard, C.W. Hopkins of Shady Spring and Russell Hopkins and wife, Mary, of Beckley; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; host of friends and relatives; and special friend, Ray Tate. She loved talking with friends on Tennessee fishing trips, especially Tim Wagers. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her great-grandchildren. Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Kenneth Parent officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.Friends may call 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Arrangements by Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley.

GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — Mary Frances Sanna Jennings Harrison {WWHS 1954}of Gallipolis, Ohio, died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Fla., following a brief illness.Mary was a retired registered nurse. She worked the majority of her career at Pleasant Valley Hospital and at Holzer Medical Center. She was a 1954 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and a graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing. She later received her B.S. in nursing from Ohio University.Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Josephine Greco Sanna; her first husband, Thomas C. Jennings Jr.; her second husband, Donald L. "Don" Harrison; two brothers, Paul and Nick Sanna; a sister, Margaret Sanna Sizemore; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Sanna. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Jennings of awrenceville, Ga.; son, Thomas C. (Lorene) Jennings III of Tampa; four grandchildren, Gary, Kira, Cali and Alea Jennings; brothers and sisters, Leonard (Toni) Sanna of Palmdale, Calif., V.J. (Robert) Sanna Monarchy of Beckley, Samuel (Beverly) Sanna of Beckley and Barbara Sanna of Shady Spring; brother-in-law, Jack Sizemore of Beckley; and several other extended family members. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Louis Catholic Church with Monsignor William Myers officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. Alan Jay Holliday, {WWHS 1975} 48, of Beckley, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, in a local hospital after a sudden illness.Born July 24, 1957, in Beckley, he was the son of the late John L. Holliday and Peggy Carter Holliday {WWHS 1956} of Beckley. Mr. Holliday was a 1975 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, was a member of First Baptist Church, Beckley, and a former member of Beckley-Raleigh County Jaycees. He was currently employed as an advertising executive with Lamar Advertising Co. and was a former insurance agent with Raleigh Insurance Agency in Beckley. Mr. Holliday was a lifelong resident of Beckley.Survivors besides his mother include his wife, Kathy Sheets Holliday; two sons, Alan J. Holliday II and his wife, Jillian, and Michael Cameron Holliday, all of Beckley; grandson, Tyler Alexander Holliday of Beckley; grandmother, Pauline Rand of Beckley; father and mother-in-law, Ray and Viola Sheets of Stephenson; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Jim Benedum of Bridgeport; and nieces, Jamie, Courtney and Kelsey Benedum.Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Vondie Cook officiating. Velma Gunnoe, 75, of MacArthur, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 22, 2006.Born March 31, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Social and Martha Rutherford Brooks. Velma was a member of Open Door Church in Shady Spring. Throughout her life she took part in the ladies auxiliary and sang in the choir. In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by four brothers, Marshall, Curtis, R.B. and Bill Brooks; and two sisters, Ruth Brooks and Opal Poland.Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Charles Glenn Gunnoe; two sons, Larry G. Gunnoe and his wife, Rebecca, of Angier, N.C., and Wayne Gunnoe and his wife, Joan, of Winterville, N.C.; two daughters, Kathy Russell and her husband, Rusty, of Wilson, N.C., and Kimberly Fox and her husband, Ray, of Brandywine;  a brother, Sturgille Brooks; a sister, Charlotte McKenzie.Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Emma Lou McComas Meadows,{WWHS 1958} age 65, of Locust Creek, died Monday, March 13, 2006, at her home. She was a retired school bus driver. She was born March 23, 1940, at Crab Orchard, the daughter of the late Retha and Anna Mae Cooper McComas. Her husband, Lowell Thomas Meadows, daughters, Kathleen Meadows, of Radford, Virginia, Terrie Gingery, of Enterprise, Alabama, and Denise Wirt, of Christiansburg, Virginia, and four grandchildren survive her. At her request the body will be cremated and there will be no services.

 Dr. Thomas Lynn Bibb, {WWHS 1954} loving husband, father and friend, 69, of Riner, died suddenly Friday, March 17, 2006 in Wytheville. He was the son of the late James B. and Mabel S. Bibb and was born August 18, 1936 in Beckley, W. Va. Dr. Bibb received his B.S. degree in Animal Science from Va. Tech in 1958, DVM from Ohio State University in 1962 and his M.S. in Equine Reproduction from Ohio State University, Veterinary College in 1966. He was a member of the American Veterinary Association, Virginia Veterinary Association, American Association of Equine Practitioners, American Association of Bovine Practitioners, Virginia Academy of Food Animal Practitioners (President), Academy of Veterinary Consultants, So! ciety of Theriogenoly, Virginia Beef Cattle Association and the Virgin ia Horse Council. Also, he was Advisor and Veterinary Consultant for the Dublin Feeder Calf Association, was Resident Veterinarian for the Pulaski County Stock Market at Dublin, a member of the Academy of Small Animals Ruminants and served as advisor to numerous youth organizations, including the United States Pony Club, 4-H, FFA, and Sheep Club. Dr. Bibb was also a member of the Lions Club and the Presbyterian Church of Radford, where he had served as a Deacon and Elder and was a member of the Advisory Board of the First National Bank, Riner Branch. Dr. Bibb chose to honor life by being an organ donor. The family takes great comfort in knowing that other lives have benefited by his gift. Also he requested to be cremated and returned to his farm. Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Susan B. Bibb; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane L. Bibb and Patrick M. Johnson; one brother and sister-in-law, James B. Bibb, Jr. and Kathy Bibb of Saline, Michigan; and one niece,! Susan B. Ekkens and her family, Michigan. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2006 from the Horne Funeral Home Chapel in Christiansburg. Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Helen Marie Tucker-Horwath, 65, of Blue Jay, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 17, 2006. Born Sept. 25, 1940, at Blue Jay, she was the daughter of Edna Ethel Smith Tucker of Cool Ridge and the late Howard Tucker. Helen was a homemaker and an upholsterer. In addition to her father, Helen was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Tucker Jr. Those left to cherish her memory, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Richard Horwath (WWHS 1960); four daughters, Stephane Price of Beckley, Cynthia Horwath of Virginia, Deborah Lehman of Glen White and Helen Harrah of Prosperity; two sisters, Loramae and Hildred; two brothers, Billy and LeRoy; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Stephen Rector officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. VICTOR — Rodney Dale Petitt, 22, of HC 81, Box 46, was dead on arrival at Charleston Area Medical Center on Sunday, March 12, 2006, following an automobile accident in Fayette County on Route 19. Born July 31, 1983, in Beckley, he was the son of Michael D. and Ceresa Meadows Petitt of Victor. He was a 2001 graduate of Midland Trail High School and a clerk at Summersville Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Mabscott Baptist Christian Church and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. His paternal grandfather, Denver Petitt, preceded him in death. Additional survivors include a brother, Richard Petitt and wife, Ashley, and their daughter, Ashton, of Victor; maternal grandparents, Benjamin and Jeanette Meadows of Grandview; paternal grandmother, Helen Mills Petitt (WWHS 1955)of Victor; and an uncle, Ben Meadows and wife, Annie, and their children, Brooke and Brian, of Beckley.In keeping with the family’s wishes, the body has been cremated. Graveside service at the family cemetery will be conducted at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Mabscott Baptist Christian Church, PO Box 13, Mabscott, WV 25871. (Graveside service was held at  2 p.m., Sunday, April 2, 2006, at the Mills Family Cemetery in Egeria, W.Va., with Pastor Doug Holly officiating. )
Eugene Duncan, 59, of Crab Orchard passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2006. Eugene was born on Feb. 15, 1947, in Beckley, the son of the late Doliver and Mary Alice Bryant Duncan.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Vietnam. In addition to his parents, a brother, Clyde Worix, and an uncle, Creed Bryant, preceded him in death. Those left to cherish his memory include his son Eugene "Scott" Duncan and wife, Christy, and their children, Jennifer, Austin, Dakota and James, all of Glen Morgan; four brothers, Frank "Doodle" Worix and wife, Ann, Howard Worix, Robert Worix and Doyle Worix; special friends James and Sandra Furrow, Stephen Holt and Debbie Ulrey, and Greg Sprouse and family. Service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2006, at at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brian Harmon officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.Friends may gather with the family 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
