Glenna I. Bailey Dellinger, of Plymouth, Mich., formerly of Johnstown Road, Beckley, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, following a long illness. She was in her 92nd year. Born Sept. 28, 1915, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late John and Ada Maddy Bailey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John O. Dellinger Jr., and sisters, Gladys Truman and Belma Trail Bruster. Mrs. Dellinger was a member of First Baptist Church, Neville Street, Beckley, for over 75 years, where she was a deaconess and a volunteer in First Place. She also was a past member of the Beckley Women’s Club and the Beckley Garden Club. She was a 1934 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Beckley. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Wall and husband, Tom, of Richardson, Texas; a son, John O. Dellinger III and wife, Judy, of Plymouth; grandchildren, Kim Dugan, Tracy Dean, Lisa Gould, Julie Cassin and Christy Ingalsbe; and 14 great-gr andchildren. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at First Baptist Church, Beckley, with the Rev. Dr. Phil Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. She was in her 90th year. Born March 7, 1917, in Surveyor, she was the youngest of 10 children born to the late Peter and Harriet Frances Williams Clay. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lessie, Lettie, Lora, Carrie, Cora, Margie, Azel, Dewey and Haven; and her husband James R. Bond Sr. on April 18, 1978. Mrs. Bond spent her childhood at Surveyor. She was a 1934 graduate of Trap Hill High School and a graduate of Concord College with a degree in teaching. She began her teaching career in Whitby and retired from Hollywood Elementary with 37 years of teaching. A resident of MacArthur for many years, Mrs. Bond was a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class for over 53 years. She was a member of the National and West Virginia Education Associations and in her leisure time enjoyed quilting, embroidering, gardening and working with her flowers. Opal was the beloved mother of Frances Bond Morris and husband, James, of Arlington, Va., and James R. Bond Jr. and wife, Susan, of Midway; the dear grandmother of five grandchildren, Anne Walp and husband, Robert, Ellen Lee Vicens and husband, Manuel, Katherine Jane Duncan and husband, Bruce, Russ Bond III and fiancé, Laura Diem, and Phillip Kent Bond and wife, Jocelyn; and the great-grandmother of Douglas and Kristen Walp, Lia Vicens, Campbell, Joseph and Charlotte Duncan. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at Crab Orchard Baptist Church with the Rev. Phil Shields officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. He was born in Beckley in 1939 and resided there until he moved to Glendale in his late teens. Bob left his loving wife, Bonnie; his adult children, Roger Beane, Karen Wright, Annette Mardiney Cheryle Bingham; and seven grandchildren. Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Grandview Presbyterian Church, Glendale. Mr. Jenkins was a lifelong member of the Freewill Baptist faith and the youngest child of the late Bernie Carl and Nancy Ellen Cox Jenkins. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. John devoted 36 years to education having taught in Wyoming County and Prince William County, Virginia. He began his teaching career at Pads Fork Grade School. It was a one-room school that John had many fond memories of. He taught at Coal Mountain and Baileysville Elementary and was Principal at Wyoming Grade School. He later moved to Woodbridge, Va., where he taught at Dale City Elementary, Bel Air Elementary, Rippon Elementary, Godwin Junior High and was Assistant Principal at Rippon Middle School and Athletic Director at Potomac Senior High Sc hool. Mr. Jenkins was awarded many awards such as teacher of the year several times; his most cherished moment was being selected as the guest speaker by the students of the graduating class of 1993 at Potomac Senior High School. He pioneered the Mediation Program that is now used in schools throughout the United States. His love for sports led him to coach soccer, football, tennis and basketball. Coaching basketball is what he was most known for; his teams won over 300 games and he was named coach of the year twice and won over 14 championships. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his nephew, Roger Jenkins, mother-in-law, Bertha Fortner, and brother-in-law, Patrick Edward Carey. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda L. Fortner Jenkins of Daniels, W.Va.; three sons, John Jenkins Jr. and his wife, Cindy, of Tyron, Ga., Michael Todd Jenkins of Indianapolis, Ind., and Rev. Shawn Jenkins and his wife, Tammy, of Daniels, W.Va.; seven grand children, Andrea Jenkins of Walnut Grove, Calif., Megan Jenkins of Daniels, W.Va., Scott Jenkins of Daniels, W.Va., Kelsey Jenkins of Indianapolis, Ind., Shane Jenkins of Daniels, W.Va., Shyan Jenkins of Daniels, W.Va., and Josh Johnson of Tyrone, Ga.; a sister, Patty Fincham and her husband, Jack, of Brenton, W.Va.; three brothers, Bernie Jenkins Jr. and his wife, Joyce, of Sun Hill, W.Va., Franklin Jenkins and his wife, Rita, of Sun Hill, W.Va., and Jacob Jenkins and his wife, Doris, of Virginia Beach, Va.; father-in-law, Frank Fortner of Brenton, W.Va.; sister-in-law, Peggy Carey of Panama City, Fla.; and brother-in-law, Nick Fortner and his wife, Loretta, of Brenton, W.Va. Service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at the Oceana Freewill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Timmy Brewster and the Rev. Earl Brewer officiating.
