Our Viewer's Speak 2007 Hello to the Woodrow Wilson High School Alumni, and a special "hello" to all of Sammy's friends from the Class of 1956, and his other friends, too.
I am Rosemary Amato Chase, sister of the late Sam Amato, who did an update for you for several years. I would like to send this message to you from my family and I.
I have just finished, once again, looking at all the get well cards that you sent to Sammy while he was ill, and the sympathy cards that you sent to my family, after he went home to be with the Lord. Thank you very much for all of your caring, concern and kindness to Sammy and to us. I did not know all of Sammy's friends, but I do know that he had many and it was very evident!. I am sure that the get well cards helped to comfort him, and please know that the sympathy cards were a comfort to us.
Losing Sammy was a very big loss for us, and I'm sure that you feel a loss, too. He was always there for my mom and he was always there for all of our family. Letting go of him will not be easy, but we know that somehow, he will live on in all of us.
Sammy did so much for so many people. He was a very caring person. He also cared very much about you and about his friends, the animals -- "We are their voice, the voice for those who cannot speak for themselves!" The concerns and care that Sammy had for the animals, will live on. He made sure of that.
Thank you again for all you did for Sammy, and for all you have done for our family. We hope that, in some way, Sammy's memory will live on in you, too.
Love and peace, The Amato Family (written for the family by Rosemary Amato Chase) March 8, 2007

Ramona Cummings (Letter sent January 7, 2003.) ramona_cummings@yahoo.com Sam, I have a request to ask from you or anyone that can tell me how to obtain a W.W.H.S. 1955 year book. I lost mine some time ago in a fire and would really love to have another one. Some time ago, Paul Hutchinson gave me an address to send for one, but I lost the address. Your Help is Needed About Writing a Book About Beckley, WV Hello friends from WWHS: After reading 2-3 books recently written by people in WV* as they remember their past, I'm am doing something similar -- writing a "book" about growing up in Small Town West Virginia during the '50's. There are some real special memories about our town, and about specific people, and how they affected our lives. There are ways which we were affected by Coach Van Meter, Mr. Sallack, teachers like Mrs. Vass, Miss Porter, and many others. These people make our memories unique and individualized, and therefore interesting. A few weeks ago, I began writing the book about growing up in Beckley, going to school there – and at Marshall, to record and to remember all the values and advantages we had from that experience. While the book originally seems to be "autobiographical" in nature, it was clear that having the thoughts of a wide variety of folks would make it more interesting and meaningful. I sent a request out for contributions of a few paragraphs from a few people whom I had e-mail addresses from, and that list has now expanded to more than 65, thanks to the folks who responded to my original message. Several people have responded with some neat stuff. The efficient way to contact you all is in a group mailing. Thanks to those of you who sent me your memories, and I hope the folks reading this for the first time will take a few minutes to write me a few paragraphs of some memories you have about "growing up in small town West Virginia" and especially what you remember about going to school there. * What did you and your friends do for fun” * Who were memorable teachers? * What do you remember about downtown? * What did you do “for fun?” This could really be a fun project and I hope you will join in with your thoughts. It's really been neat so far to get some things sent which brings back some good memories. So I'm asking you to join in. Would you send me, and would you ask others to send me something about your memories? I'd like to ask you to write a paragraph/or two/or ten about special things in your memories, and send them to me via e-mail,or otherwise. I want to quote you and to make this book a special collective effort. I have a bunch of pictures, but later, I might ask if you have a special photo to scan into the books. I think this could be a neat project, and if it comes to a final product, and if I can get it published, maybe it could be sold at Tamarack, and via the WWHS web site and the profits could be donated to the Beckley Area Foundation in the name or our school/our class(es) or in some other neat way. I've published several book/booklet items, so I'm not daunted by the project work. I hope you'll take a few minutes to respond – I intend for it to be real folksy and personal, so write whatever comes to your mind and heart. A special event. A person who impacted your life. Something funny, something touching, something exciting. A place, a time. Thanks. Norm Haddad '54 NOJAhaddad939@aol.com
