Wrestling heroes - Commonwealth Games

 Chris Rinke - Canada
Brisbane 1982, Edinburgh 1986

Chris Rinke is a Canadian wrestling hero. Two Commonwealth golds and an Olympic

bronze have seen to that. In the summer of 2001 he was inducted into the Canadian

amateur wrestling Hall of Fame for his achievements.

Besides his medals Rinke was also six-time national champion and twice junior

champion back in Canada.

Mohammed Bashir - Pakistan
Cardiff 1958, Perth 1962, Kingston 1966

Three Commonwealth golds spanning three Games and an Olympic bronze in 1960

make Bashir Pakistan's most successful ever wrestler.

Bashir was one of several Pakistani wrestlers who helped dominate the sport in the

 late fifties/early sixties.

Daniel Igali - Canada
Victoria 1994

World & Olympic gold medallist Daniel Igali will be looking to add to his

precious  metal collection at Manchester 2002. This will be Igali's second

Commonwealth Games but his first for his adopted Canadian nation.

His record breaking wrestling record at University highlighted him as

something special but it was his stunning achievement at Sydney 2000

that shot 'Dynamite' to world fame.

 Richard Garrard - Australia
London 1934, Sydney 1938, Auckland 1950, Vancouver 1954

Amazingly appeared in four Commonwealth Games, spanning 20 years and a World

War. Richard Garrard was rewarded by the Australians in the 1954 Games when he

was his nation's flag-bearer at the opening ceremony.

There are few athletes who can match Garrard's appearance record and his three

gold medals in lightweight category elevate him to one of the Games greatest achievers.
