Windows ME has a vastly improved defragmenter. Faster, and does a much better job. Don't have Windows ME? No problem. This defragmenter also works with Windows versions 95/98/98SE. | One great improvement with Windows ME was the new defragmenter that was included. I have Windows 98SE on one of my computers and use the WindowsME defragmenter on it. I have had absolutley no problems with it at all. In fact, quite the opposite. It saves me a lot of time when I defrag now. When i used to defrag using the original included with 98SE, I could hear it working at a slow pace. Maybe you have noticed it too. Kind of a "chug-chug....I'm taking my merry old time here" sort of sound. The first time I ran the Windows ME defrag, I was a bit disappointed at first, as it went slow til it hit about the 10% mark, although it did sound like it was working much faster. Then suddenly it took off like a rocket. I sat in amazement as I watched it go to work. This defragmenter can be downloaded from the link I will provide below. I really hope you consider trying it. It's a small, quick download, and complete instructions are given at the site. There is good info to read there concerning it. Just scroll down to the section titled "a better, faster defragmenter". Read what they say. You don't even have to get rid of the one you have, if you are a bit leary about that. You can just try the new one, and see what you think. There's even a section with instructions titled "My heart's racing....." that gives simplified instructions. I would suggest using this "easy" method for installing it. There is no need to tinker with the original defrager. Good luck, and don't let the time factor involved with system maintenence prevent you from doing it. It is a necessary procedure for good performance, and this can be an improvment to your maintenence program.
