| My purpose in writing this is NOT to compare, rate, or suggest one particular anti-virus program is the best. The purpose of this article is to make people aware that whether it is a matter of original product cost, cost of future upgrades, or even intimidation due to difficulty understanding how to use a program, there is no need for anyone to go without anti-virus protection. This is not an advertisement. | I use this anti-virus program and am very pleased with it and have found it to do an excellent job. When my anti-virus program that came with my other computer was about to expire, I decided to check my options as far as not paying the upgrade fee. Realizing the importance of having good virus protection, cost was not my main concern. I spent a lot of time checking into various AV programs and found a lot of positive reviews about AVG, and was surprised to find out it was free! I figured I would try it and if I didn't care for it, I could always check out other AV programs. In a nutshell, I have been using AVG for about a year now, and have installed it on both of my computers. People often have the misconception that if something is free, it can't be as good as a program that costs money. This certainly is not the case with the AVG program. There is a "pro" version which provides "advanced" features for a fee, however, the free version is all that the typical home user needs. Not only is this program very effective, it's also easy to use. First time users who are new to AV programs will have no difficulty getting this program up and functioning, and the default settings are fine. There is also a good "help" section available.(also, if you have problems, you can simply post them and we can try to help  ) The importance of keeping AV files updated using any AV program cannot be stressed enough. AVG makes this task very simple by giving options for automatically checking for updates at a time specified by the user, or doing so very easily manually. ( I prefer to never let any auto updates run for any type of program) To download this program, you will first be asked to fill out a simple registration form, then your download will begin. You will be sent a code of numbers to the e-mail address you provided, within a short period of time. You will need to enter this code into the proper section when you are installing AVG, so please don't proceed with the installation until you have received this code.(you are informed of this) In summary, I would like to point out the importance of having a good anti-virus program installed on your computer. A virus can cause severe problems and damage. With a program such as AVG available, which is not only highly rated, simple to understand and use, and also free, there is no reason for anyone to be without this protection.
