Virus Info & Alerts

If you are new to computing, you have probably heard about viruses, trojans, worms, and all the problems they can cause. This page is meant to provide you with some information about what they are, how they work, and to keep you informed about the latest discoveries.

( In order to make this page easier to use, I have used links to a site that contains some very useful info. Although this site offers an anti-virus program, in no way is this meant as an endorsement for this particular product. An anti-virus program is a matter of personal choice, and many computers come with one already installed. )

click here for an explanation of what viruses, malware, and trojans are, and how they work

click here for an explanation of some terms associated with viruses (including worms, trojans, dialers, etc.)

click here for a weekly virus report

click here for a list of the top 10 current viruses and advisories

NOTE: by clicking on the various names in the list of viruses, you will get a description of it. Also, further down, you will see a "solution" offered. It is not recommended that you try this. If you should encounter a problem, I would advise using your own anti-virus program, and if you have trouble understanding what to do, please ask for help on the message board.

Remember to keep your anti-virus program updated. Please develop a habit of doing this on a regular basis, as they update quite frequently. (I check mine at least once a week)

All of the above links take you to the Trend Micro site. By clicking on the "free tools" section at the top of any page, you can run a free online virus scan.

Note: If you have no anti-virus program due to monetary problems or otherwise, there is no need to be without one. I strongly suggest you click here to read my review about the AVG anti-virus program, which is not only an excellent program, it is also free. Please don't let your system be exposed to these potential risks.
