MORE FAMOUS CRETANS
The well known actress Jennifer Aniston has also Cretan roots. Her father John( Giannis) was born here with the name Anastasakis, but that's not a good name in show bussines, so he changed it in Aniston. John is also a famous actor in the USA and appears in a daily soap serie. The world knows Jennifer from many films and the famous serie Friends and of course from her marriage with Brad Pitt. Its known that Jennifer lived here on Crete for a year and that she speaks some Greek. Well maybe she will apear once in her live in a Greek Drama from ancient times.

NIKOS PAPADAKIS is the next famous Cretan. He was born in Selia a village in the prefecture of Rethymno. In 1994 he wonn for Greece the Mister World Modell competition. At that time he was already a Modell for fashion and magazines, but after winning the election his price went up and he travelled all over the world. Now at an older age he is the manager of the Modell agency Stars in Athens.
Nana Mouskouri (born Ioanna Mouskouri In 1934 in CRETE is a Greek singer and politician. Her fans have claimed that she is the biggest-selling female singer of all time, in part due to her recording many of her songs in many different languages, including Greek, French, English, Spanish and German. She is noted for her trademark eyeglasses. She has sold more than 200 million(*) records internationally, recording about 1,500 songs in 15 languages. She is France's number one selling artist. In general, her songs are known for melancholy, longing, and sentimental musings upon love, for which the emotion of her voice is exceptionally suited.
When Mouskouri was 3, her family moved to Athens. In 1950 she was accepted at the Athens Conservatory, but she was expelled in 1957 after it was discovered that she was singing with a jazz group at night. She won first prize at the 1959 Greek Song Festival singing Manos Hadjidakis "Kapou Iparchi Agapi Mou".
Her first hit was "The White Rose of Athens" (1961).
Mouskouri was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in October 1993. She represented Greece in the European Parliament from 1994-1999. 
ODYSEAS ELYTIS Writer & Poet
Born in Heraklion from a Lesvos family, he studied law in Athensbut did not take his degree. He was the last of the six children of Panagiotis Alepoudelis and Maria Vrana. He moved to Athens when he was little. In 1923 he visited Italy, Swiss and Germany. In Lausanne the poet began to knew and recognized Eleftherios Venizelos. Odyseas was a very popular and beloved man in Greece and for all Greeks around the world.
NICK THE GREEK
A man who became almost as legendary as any man in romantic fiction and certainly America's most famous gambler.
Born in Rethymnon, Crete, and educated at the Greek Evangelical College in Smyrna, Nick ( whose real name was Nicholas Andrea Dandolos ) was the son of a rug merchant and the godson of a wealthy shipowner. When he was 18 years old, his grandfather sent him to America, giving him an allowance of $150 a week. In Chicago he met and fell in love with a girl, but they quarreled and Nick moved on to Montreal. There he became friendly with a leading jockey of the day, Phil Musgrave; assisted by the jockey's advice and his own natural ability for working out odds, Nick won $500,000 in six months' betting on horse races
