The second GOING OUT page is about the places that I recommend in Chania and the prefecture.

Let me start in the TOWN with RESTAURANT SELINI

At the Romantic Old Harbor you''l find the restaurant SELINI. Here I eat several times excellent fresh Greek and Cretan food and from insiders I know that they also serve good and fresh Fish. So when visiting Chania and out for dinner or lunch on the harbor promenade you'll find this place.

TAMAM                            

In the same area as Selini, but in a narrow street behind it, you can find a place that looks almost like a secret. The name is Tamam, which means OK in Turkish. Well this place is realy OK, because here you'll have the chance to taste some excellent food. It always busy all year around and to reserve a day before is sometimes realy needed.

 

MONASTIRI

Situated on the Venetian Harbor, with a perfect view, you can enjoy real good Cretan and Greek foord aswell as the international Kitchen. A tourist Taverna but still the friendly service is perfect and Open All year.

IMBROS TAVERN.

Many people walk this gorge under their own steam. Before you start you might like a Sfakian Pie CRETAN FOOD 2 Well this is the place to try it, the restaurant is the last one on the road after the village Imbros and the owner Christos will be happy to serve you the sweet pancake

KOMITADES TAVERN

Once you finished the walk trough this beautiful gorge you will end up in this tavern. Simple mostly grilled dishes are on the menu but you may ask for the home made cooked specialties of the day. Try the joghurt with honey and the owner Manolis will not let you go without a small glas of his own raki

LEFKA ORI

This tavern you will meet once you finished your walk trough the Samaria Gorge. The friendly family was the first one that started a place at the end of the gorge once it was declared as a national park.They offer sometimes goat meat or wild rabbit.

OASIS RESTAURANT

En route and passing by from Frangokastello on the south. The absolute best place for a lunch is restaurant Oasis, you will find it with the sigh on the road. A great variety of dishes and it was all cooked the same day. Good service and beer from the Barrel.

 

PETALUDA. Going more to the west of the prefecture and you are on tour on Crete? Sleep and eat at Petaluda in Phalasarna on the nice beachers there, here good fish meals, friendly service and very good good rooms, so you dont have to drive in the night.

OMORFI LIMNI Translated this means The beautiful lake and its a Taverna on the only natural sweetwater lake on Crete, Kournas near Georgioupolis. Here we find more Taverns for people en route looking for a lunch at midday with a nice view on the Lake. I prefer Omorfi Limny  because of their Cretan kitchen, their local specialties and the meat from the skewer. Also the service is very friendly, specially if father Michaelis is around. This taverna was a favorite place from Olaf Palme, the swedish politician that was killed in the streets of Stockholm.

FISH TAVERN "O GERO TSENKAS"

This tavern in on the harbor from Kissamos. Fresh fish every day from their own boat. Of course friendly served at your table with a good glass of wine.
