Collection of Minoan foundings from the aera, like Aptera and the old town center. NAVAL and WAR MUSEUM IN CHANIA. Situated in the old Fortress of Chania at the Venetian Harbor, opposite from the Lighthouse. Interesting collection of Naval objects, model ships from the Cretan Hostory aswell of all the battles with the invaders. ELEFTHERIOS HOUSE in MOURNIES. 4 Km from Chania is in a nice village( Mournies) the Birth house of the most famous Cretan Politician Eleftherios Venizelos. FAMOUS CRETANS FOLK ART MUSEUM IN GAVALACHORI ( Apokoranas, east of Chania) In an Old Venetian Mansion in the center of the village we find this very interesting Folk Art Museum. Situated and decorated in the house with on the first floor collections of Armery, stone Carving, Embroideries and Silk Culture. Something not to miss if you are in the area. ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE APTERA. Situated on a hill not far form Chania in the hinterland there you will find the site of ancient Aptera. Its not as big as other Minoan foundings but from here the view over the area is one of the best from the whole island. ANCIENT CITY OF LAPPA Actually the place is also knowm as Argyroupolis. Its dated from the late Minoan history and there are all around the village beautiful foundings to be admired, like the almost complete Mosaik floor from a Minoan house. In the village also a shop with local products with for exsample Advocade Creme for a soft and healthy skin. Down in the village is a beautiful area with old Plane Trees and huge waterfalls. Its one of the most beautiful places I know on Crete and certainly worth a visit. |
