Santa Hat

A quick and easy pattern to make a Santa hat to hang on the Christmas tree.  You can make it in yarn or thread for different sizes.

Materials
Dk yarn in red and white, polyester filling, 4.00mm hook.  This makes one about 10cm (4ins) tall.

UK Instructions

Top
Rnd 1:  In white, ch 2, 6 dc in 1st ch, mark as right side, ss to 2nd ch, turn. (6 sts)
Rnd 2:  Ch 1, 2 dc in each dc, ss to 1st ch, turn. (12 sts)
Rnd 3:  Ch 1, dc in each dc, ss to 1st ch, turn.
Rnd 4:  Ch 1, dc2tog 6 times, ss to 1st ch, turn. (6 sts)
Rnd 5:  Ch 1, dc2tog 3 times, change to red, cut white, ss to 1st ch, turn. (3 sts)
Rnd 6:  Ch 1, 2 dc in each dc, ss to 1st ch, turn. (6 sts)
Rnd 7:  Ch 10, ss to 1st ch, (forms hanging loop), dc in each dc, ss to 1st dc, making sure loop is to right side, turn.
Rnd 8:  Ch 1, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc) 3 times, ss to 1st ch, turn. (9 sts)
Rnd 9:  Ch 1, dc in each dc, ss to 1st ch, turn.
Rnd 10:  Ch 1, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc) 3 times, ss to 1st ch, turn. (12 sts)
Rnd 11:  Ch 1, dc in each dc, ss to 1st ch, turn.
Rnd 12:  Ch 1, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc) 3 times, ss to 1st ch, turn. (15 sts)
Rnd 13:  Ch 1, dc in each dc, ss to 1st ch, turn.
Rnd 14:  Ch 1, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next 4 dc) 3 times, ss to 1st ch, turn. (18 sts)
Rnd 15:  Ch 1, dc in each dc, ss to 1st ch, turn.
Rnd 16:  Ch 1, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next 5 dc) 3 times, ss to 1st ch, turn. (21 sts)
Rnd 17:  Ch 1, dc in each dc, ss to 1st ch, turn.
Rnd 18:  Ch 1, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next 8 dc) 3 times, ss to 1st ch, turn. (24 sts)
Rnd 19:  Ch 1, dc in each dc, ss to 1st ch, fasten off.

Base
Rnd 1:  In white, ch 2, 6 dc in 1st ch, mark as right side, ss to 2nd ch, turn. (6 sts)
Rnd 2:  Ch 1, 2 dc in each dc, ss to 1st ch, turn. (12 sts)
Rnd 3:  Ch 1, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc) 6 times, ss to 1st ch, turn. (18 sts)
Rnd 4:  Ch 1, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc) 6 times, ss to 1st ch, turn. (24 sts)
Place top and base together with wrong sides facing, matching up dc’s and work through both layers.  With hat top pointing towards you, continue as follows.
Lightly fill when you have done about ¾ of rnd 5.
Rnd 5:  Ch 3, 4 tr in each dc, ss to 3rd ch, fasten off.  Sew in ends.

Rnd 15:  Ch 1, sc in each sc, sl st to 1st ch, turn.
