Rejuvenating Feet in Class
When you are in the middle of class and your pointe shoes are feeling a little tight or the padding a little uncomfortable, try running in place on demi-pointe for a few seconds to get a quick pick me up. It usually helps my feet to feel better and ready to go again.

Protecting Tips of Pointe Shoes
This is for people who wear pointe shoes. We all know that eventually, the delicate satin is going to start coming off the tips of our shoes and make things slippery. When this starts to happen, just go ahead and cut all the satin off the platform and cover it with moleskin. First, cut off the stain from the tip. Then hold a flame to the edges to keep what's left from fraying. Now you're ready to apply the moelskin. Make sure you don't just cut out a circle of moleskin. Extend the patch under the tip of the platform to the tip of the shank to help keep it from being rubbed off from tendus, etc. Also, use a little glue around the other edges to keep it on firmly. It's cheap and keeps you from slipping. It also helps protect your shoe from wear and tear.

This picture shows most of the pointe shoe terms that will help you.

When you are getting your first pair of pointe shoes, you should definetly go to a dance store and try on lots of different brands to see which one fits you better, because all pointe shoes are different. Make sure that the sales person knows everything about it. Once you already know which pointe shoes you need to get, it's a lot cheaper to order it from a catalog.

To know the exact spot to sew the ribbon, fold the heel of the pointe shoe down. The ribbon should be right on the line. When tying your ribbons, dont tie it up to your knee. It shouldnt go any further than your ankle.

Your teacher should show you how to break into your shoes. But sometimes when you have a big arch you dont have to break your shoes at all. You may want to tear off the bottom part of it, and then burn the ends so that the threads won't be all over the bottom of your shoe.

Cramps
To prevent cramps in your foot, always stretch out before you put on you pointe shoe.

Blisters

To prevent blisters you can tape your toes, get a different toe pad (maybe your current one has weakened and you need a new one.) Cut your toe nails or fluff up your toe pad.
If you already have blisters, you can put ice or vaseline on them, then stick them in hot water.

Something that really helps to prevent blisters and make pointe work much easier is instead of a toe pad, you wrap paper towel around your toes, and then put a regular grocery bag over it. That way your toes can't get blisters, because the grocery bag slides along the sides and it really helps.

Dirty Shoes
If you have a performance coming up, and your pointe shoes look dirty, you can clean them with calamine lotion, it really helps!
